Predictably, Fox Contributor Wants Lady Gaga Video Banned: ‘This Is Just Poison’

video

So, this was probably inevitable. Sandy Rios, Fox news contributor and president of the Culture Campaign (the name alone should probably send some warning signals) told Megyn Kelly that she thinks Lady Gaga’s latest (jaw-droppingly awesome) video “Telephone” featuring Beyonce should be banned from MTV because this time “we have to speculate whether she has a male member or not, and whether she’s had it cut off or not…then we’ve got Gaga and Beyonce, gay Lesbian lovers, I mean it’s disgusting…this is just poison for the minds of our kids.”

To which I reply, MTV still shows music videos? Also. Have you met the Internet? Yawn. Anyway, Rios thinks it should be banned because it is raping our children’s innocence, among other things. Basically, for all the same reasons people have been calling for videos to be banned since Madonna groveled in front of a black Jesus figure in ‘Like A Prayer.’ (Update: also, Sex.) Except, now that there’s this thing called the Internet, banning would sort of be the equivalent of MTV burning their collective checkbook. Also, the advertisers apparently think it’s great. Video of the Fox clip below. Video of Gaga’s latest here.

Good god, the 1980′s was 30 years ago, we’ve past this point already. Leave it alone, the “culture war” is over for music, please stop.

  • SWWT

“So you’d let your kids watch it!?”

I don’t have kids so I’m not gonna worry about it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Boyer/602168764 John Boyer

Ban it for not making a lick of sense.

  • The Real Royal King

All the Marys in Heaven, if we start banning for this, O’Reilly will lose 90% of his “content”.

  • Azarkhan

I would say that this non-story is just another example of MediaiteMatters trying to do a negative story on Fox News, but oh yeah, little Stevie Krakauer assured us that “Glynnis is fair” (so there!). OK little Stevie.

  • MichelleF

Predictably, Glynnis has another “I Hate Fox” piece.

  • MichelleF

    I now await Steve’s reprimand.

  • Snipzor

Azarkhan, the Fox News crew is trying to push 1980′s culture war back at us. Directly not a big story, but the meaning behind the actions is quite sinister and pathetic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/John-Boyer/602168764 John Boyer

    @Azarkhan
    Agreed.

  • http://mediaite.com Steve Krakauer

Damn, Glynnis really hates Fox. I’ve totally come around on this.

  • MichelleF

A question, Glynnis; if a country artist had a video of a young pregnant girl who refused to have an abortion because she thought it was immoral, and instead kept it, would you be fine with that, as well?

  • Azarkhan

Krakauer: “Damn, Glynnis really hates Fox. I’ve totally come around on this”

Enlightenment dawns on the dullest. It begins around the eyes…

  • m

Fox News: trying to wind the clock backwards since 1996.

  • Glynnis MacNicol

@MichelleF: I think that video already exists and, yes, it’s always been one of my favs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N6KqgMj8o8

  • valkyrie101

Seems like MTV is known to show lots of content that some parents would object to for their kids. Are not parents who object to this kind of stuff already blocking their children’s access to MTV. I mean a few years they were showing non-stop music videos, like Madona’s “Like a Virgin” clip, not to mention that Bruce Springstein “Born in the USA” video with all that communist content. Is MTV mellowing now, or trying reach out to family values crowd?

  • Christine

What kind of parent would let children watch MTV in the first place? Nothing but crap on that channel. Lady Gaga’s music sucks and that is some horrible dancing. When you don’t have actual talent you go for shock value, eg Madonna + Britney Spears. Gaga must love the attention of rumors of getting banned. This preachy woman is annoying. Monitor your own damn kids.

  • MichelleF

I’m not talking about Madonna, Glynnis. I’m talking about an artist that leans to the right, you know the kind you detest. Do you recall the lefty outrage about the tim tebow add?

  • Azarkhan

I wonder if there is something else Mediaite could be covering other than a story about some silly, whorish twit who no one will remember in a few years. Hmmm, let me think for a minute. Hey, how about this gem from Mexico?!

“Eight journalists were kidnapped in Reynosa between Feb. 18 and March 3, according to the Inter-American Press Association. One was found dead with signs of torture. Two were released alive and five are still missing.”

I know they’re only Mexicans, but aren’t they part of the media? But maybe MediateMatters prefers to maintain, in the words of one Mr. Krakauer, “continued ignorance on all things reality-based….”

  • Johnny M

Our definition of “jaw-droppingly awesome” must be slightly different.

I dont think it should be banned because its offensive…its just kinda dumb, and a desperate attempt to be shocking.

  • Snipzor

From now on it might just be useful to translate every future comment Azarkhan makes. You know, so we don’t have to subject ourselves from his logical fallacies and irrelevant comments.

    “WHARRGARBL”
    -Azarkhan

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joshua-Stears/30802426 Joshua Stears

While I would hardly classify this as jaw-droppingly awesome or even all that scandolous and shocking (Madonna and Marilyn Manson were way better for those kinds of videos imho), I wouldn’t consider this appropriate for younger kids…say pre-teens or something. Then again I wouldn’t let my young kids watch MTV anyway.

…as for the Fox News crap, why is it that they’ll have contributors get all riled up and call for the banning of stuff like this, but as soon as Robert Gibbs or a congressman says something negative about Fox News they’re all up in arms about freedom of speech and people trying to silence them and take away their rights? Can you say two faced hypocrites? Say it with me now kiddos, two faced hypocrites.

  • Azarkhan

“Can you say two faced hypocrites?”

OK, Snipzor and Joshua Stears. That’s two.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joshua-Stears/30802426 Joshua Stears

Unless you can show how that statement has any truth to it about me you’ve just proven yet again that you’re nothing more then a troll that has nothing better to do then bash people that don’t agree with you.

  • valkyrie101

Why does O’Reilly go after MTV for Lady Gaga? He is appealing to his audience, which tends to be conservative and pro-family values. Its as simple as that. But by doing that, millions more than he reaches hear about it and immediately want to see it, even many of the people who watch his show. I am not a Lady Gaga fan, though I do like Beyonce. I would never have tracked that video down if not for the controversy.

  • Snipzor

Not really Azarkhan, this is a website based almost entirely around media based news. If you want to make an argument that there isn’t enough about world event, go ahead, but make it on Breitbart’s websites. You know, his terrible websites that are in essence the equivalence of projectile vomit copy/pasta’d on the internet. Yea, that guy, I hear at least one of his websites isn’t the equivalence of a right-wing circle jerk… wait no, I keep forgetting. That’s not true, they all suck.

Point is, if you are going to “Threadjack” (The practice of bringing the entire topic to a halt so you can have attention. Like a whore), I might as well point out the obvious. You are the dog who is barking at oncoming jet stream water.

Also your translation kind of missed the point of what I was getting at, but that’s okay. I still expect nothing other than failure from an attention whore like yourself =)

  • MichelleF

Family Values, oh no!! I’m not for banning the video, just turn it off if you don’t like. But have we really gotten to a point that morals and values are a bad thing? What a sad commentary of the state of things today.

  • Snipzor

You know Michelle, morals and values are relative. Your morals and values in this case are that of the ignorant older generation shaking their fist in fear of the coming generation, unaware that the generation has already come here and have made their place in society. Otherwise known as the “Get off my lawn” set of values and morals.

  • marcus.lewis

Wait, people actually think that Lady Gaga is a dude who cut off her penis?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joshua-Stears/30802426 Joshua Stears

Yeah, there was a rumor for a while that she had both genitalia. She’s said it was never true and from some bikini shots she’s either a really good tucker or telling the truth.

  • valkyrie101

The thing is, Michelle, different people have different moral values. Some people, for example, have no problem with the notion of recreational sex. Others, see that as despicable. Why should one group of people be permitted to inflict their values on the other people. On the other hand, we all live together in the same culture so there must be some places that people can go which does not offend their “traditional family values”. Network TV has much different rules than cable TV, for example, much more strict about sex, swearing, etc. to protect a large segment of the population from being offended. But if you go to Cinemax on cable after 10 pm, then that is a different realm where sex is basically OK to show.

  • Azarkhan

“Yeah, there was a rumor for a while that she had both genitalia.”

Right rumor, wrong person. This is about Snipzor the Two-Way Whore.

  • MichelleF

Um I’m 37 snip. I agree with you valkyrie101, but people that share my values are often talked down too in the media, but if your values are say pro-abortion, the media is happy to help you espouse those views. For instance, did you have a problem with the Tim Tebow? Pro-abortion groups were on TV screaming about how it should not be shown. Don’t you think that all of our values should be treated equally? That’s all I want.

  • Snipzor

No no no, the rumor is that I enjoy sex with men, and the rumor has been confirmed by myself multiple times. You must clearly be referring to Bizarro-Snipzor, the confusion happens a lot, we look alike. Nice attempt at transphobia, now I know where more of your loyalties lie, Azarkhan. Or should I call you freeper? =)

  • Snipzor

When your values include banning and jailing me, I would much rather not treat your values with respect. Sorry, but it would be an evolutionary trait on my part. As well as banning something that is in essence a throwback to the earlier male dominated set of values. Something even you would not want to go back to.

Also, the ideology is the old man, not the person holding it. And the media is not espousing my values, if anything they are still practicing a patriarchal value system. Broadcasting them to the newer generation as a means of socializing them into a bigoted world.

  • Azarkhan

“the rumor has been confirmed by myself multiple times”

I confirmed it myself. Remember the bar last Satuday night, around 1AM? You went in the back room and bent over? You said no one had ever made you feel so, I think the word was “feminine”. I could be wrong, the music was pretty loud. You liked it so much you asked for my phone number. Sorry, not into relationships.

  • Snipzor

Oh, and I’ve never actually stated my opinion on the video. Personally the music is meh, I’m not a fan of music past the year 1982, but I thought the video was awesome.

  • Azarkhan

Snipzor: Oh, and I’ve never actually stated my opinion on the video”

    Oh, nobody cares.

  • Azarkhan

Snipzor: “When your values include banning and jailing me, I would much rather not treat your values with respect.”

*Sniff* Please stop, I’m starting to cry.

  • Azarkhan

“Also, the ideology is the old man, not the person holding it.”

    Whatever.

  • Snipzor

Silly Azarkhan, buttsex jokes? Come on, you’re better than that… no, not really. But at least your more open about it than your republican counterparts. And no, the rule isn’t “It’s not gay if the balls touch”, the rule is “Both men are gay if they have sex with each other”. Nice try cutie, even if you wanted, I’d just laugh at you and call you a disease ridden slut. ;)

  • Azarkhan

Or as I like to put it, pitching or catching, it’s all baseball.

  • Azarkhan

    “Nice try cutie…”

    I’m blushing.

  • Azarkhan

PS: I thought our balls did touch!

  • Azarkhan

    ” your republican counterparts”

    BTW, I’m not a republican, I’m a fascist. That’s why I’m top!

  • Azarkhan

  • valkyrie101

    Michelle,
Well Tim Tebow is my man. I live in Florida. It goes back to what I was saying before about what is appropriate in what place and at what time. The argument against the ad was simply that the Super Bowl was not the time and place for an ad relating to the contentious issue of abortion, whether pro or con. I thought the ad(s) were pretty inoccuous, but nevertheless, many people thought the Super Bowl was not the proper venue for that sort of thing. It was not that people wanted to prevent the ad, in general, just during the Super Bowl. On the other hand, if someone wants to run a beer comercial with talking beer bottles playing football, that would be OK. :-)

  • TWC

I’d be more concerned with the apparent animal abuse on stage from Gaga. Weird
    http://weeklycoitus.co.nz/?p=990#more-990
    This may not be true.

This is all ridicrulus! Only at Fox! For more smart political talk, join us (including TRRK, John Tee, MGB, Scott H, and Same) at http://rangerbobfriends.blogspot.com/

  • Azarkhan

    “For more smart political talk”

Uhmm, that’s not possible if TRRK and Same are participating.

  • writer

TRRK is not biased, and if you say he is, then you’re a racist homophobe who lives in an Alabama trailer park.

  • Olby Sucks

    Not that there’s anything wrong w/that. ;)

  • Azarkhan

    OK Greg and Jerry!

  • MichelleF

Looks like the nuns at Fox aren’t the only ones who don’t like the video. This if from that conservative website Huffington Post:

In the name of art, can we just do a “Piss GaGa”? You know, have her stand in a bucket of piss and call it art?

  • writer

With Urethra Franklin as guest vocalist?

  • Azarkhan

BTW Michelle, that was a good article. I would never visit the HuffHoe otherwise, so thanks for the link.

  • MichelleF

    My pleasure, Azarkhan.

  • MichelleF

I’m curious, do the libs on this thread think that those of us that believe that abortion is morally wrong, should have to pay for them with our taxes? Now that’s pushing your values on others to the max.

  • Snipzor

Michelle, is a red herring even worth responding to with an answer?

  • valkyrie101

Some religious groups believe that all medical care is immoral. Is it right that their taxes pay for medical care for Congressmen? A large number of passivist people in our population believe that war is immoral under all circumstances, and over a hundred million people specifically object to the current middle east war. Is it right that so much of their taxes is used to pay for it? A significant percentage of the population believe that capital punishment is immoral. Is it right that their taxes be used to pay for the execution of people? A woman’s right to have an abortion is a Constitutionally protected right, and a valid medical procedure which is almost always covered under existing private medical plans. What right does a minority of the population have to object to their taxes being used to perform a Constitutionally protected medical procedure?

  • MichelleF

Snip, it’s not a red herring and we all know it.

  • blueblogger

    MichelleF

I’m curious, do the libs on this thread think that those of us that believe that abortion is morally wrong, should have to pay for them with our taxes? Now that’s pushing your values on others to the max.

No Michelle I don’t believe YOUR tax dollars should be used to pay for abortions. But I don’t like the fact that my taxes in Florida pay for the many death penalty executions that happen here in this state. But I doubt if I mention that in my tax return and take a deduction for it that the IRS will let me get away with it. Stuff happens and while I would never try to change your/my mind about abortions because I believe that it is the choice of the person only. You sure can’t say the same about the death penalty.

  • valkyrie101

…Quite a few people believe that killing animals, and eating them, is immoral. Why should their tax dollars be used by Congressmen for their expensed non-vegitarian dinners? Many people object to contraception on moral grounds, however, the cost of contraception is currently paid for by the federal government employee insurance plan. Many people believe that drinking alcohol is immoral. Why should their tax dollars be used to pay for the wine that is served at Congressional and state dinners?…

    Michelle?

  • MichelleF

Sorry, I had to watch 24. Very good questions, valkyrie101. I think we should all pay less taxes. Can we agree on that?

  • puck30

I’m with Glynnis on this part…..

MTV still runs Music Videos? Who knew?

  • valkyrie101

    Michelle,
Why not no taxes? Aren’t taxes evil?

  • writer

MTV still does videos. They’re just not worth watching.

  • MichelleF

Nice try valkyrie101 but I do support some taxes, just not the concept of “tax anything that will move”, according to HC.
