Rachel Maddow Would Like To Put Dick Cheney On Trial…Sort Of

More specifically, Rachel Maddow tells USA Today that she would like to have Dick Cheney on her show and that in her mind the interview would be “a long discussion. I would essentially treat it like a trial.” Alas, Dick Cheney will apparently not consent to appear on Maddow’s MSNBC show. Neither will his daughter Liz Cheney, according to Maddow:

Liz Cheney has been very friendly, but the answer’s always no. She even ran ads on her website talking about how people on MSNBC don’t want to debate the real issues. I was like, “Come on, I’ll debate anything with you.” The [former] vice president’s office doesn’t bother responding.

Also, (brace yourself BriWi!) Maddow has never watched network news: “I’ve actually never watched network news my whole life. Growing up, we were not a network news family.” She reveals she gets all her news online and has “never actually seen a whole prime-time show on Fox.” Something to keep in mind, perhaps, the next time she takes the network to task. You can read the full interview, including her views on gay marriage, here.

    Totally obvious.

I don’t think Maddow would actually debate. It would be about putting Bush or Cheney (her dad if Liz went on), on trial. It would all about past stuff and not anything relevant today. In my opinion it wouldn’t be in either of the Cheney’s interest to go on. There is nothing for them to gain, especially considering the audience of the show.

As much as I loathe and despise Cheney, and grieve and the damage he did to our Constitution and our Republic, I think it best that these things pass. People able to learn from is misfeasance and malfeasance have already done so.

Perhaps totally obvious to someone jealous of the fact that Ms. Maddow has a television show whilst “someone else” has nichts, nada rien.

I always have a good laugh when a poster does not want to talk about the past. I think that is a Republican thing only. I say that because I can’t count the number of times posters refer to the past when it is about Clinton. Sarainitaly Rachel has said often that she doesn’t own a television. She would debate Liz or Daddy. Trust me on that. She has had more righties on her show than all of MSNBC put together.

P.S. Republicans love to talk bout the past as long as it is Regan they are talking about!!!! Georgie Boy not so much.

And Democrats don’t like to talk about that. It’s not unique to either party. Quit acting like it is. Democrats don’t like to talk about Carter. So, no, it’ s not a Republican thing. But back to point I made: What does Liz have to gain by going on TV and defending decisions she didn’t make to an audience that isn’t going to be swayed no matter what she says? Nothing.

So Rachel doesn’t watch Fox. I wonder which websites she consults to get her information about them? I’m sure it’s only the ones that are completely unbiased.

  • timzank timzank says:

First of all, it’s painfully obvious Maddow doesn’t watch what she criticizes, like the rest of the folks commenting here, and 2nd it’s a no win for ANY conservative to appear on Maddow’s program. There is no market share to “win over” on her channel. At least with Fox News there is an enormous amount of independent viewers, some which can swayed by Democrats who appear. That’s just not the case at MSNBC, where there clearly is no one else watching besides the rabid “foaming at the mouth” progressive viewer.

  • blueblogger blueblogger says:

I think if news got out that Liz was going on Rachel there would be many that would watch. Just like we like to watch train wrecks. You betcha!!!

You are so right. I don’t watch FOX unless I am stuck in my doctor’s office without a choice.

timzank, do you really believe many independents and democratics watch FOX?

I just checked and I am not foaming at the mouth right now and I am watching one of your favorites SHUSTER!!

“It would all about past stuff and not anything relevant today.”

So by your logic, Charles Manson and John Wayne Gacy should be released forthwith because their crimes were in the past and no longer relevant.

  • AikidoJoe AikidoJoe says:

    @homie

Nothing I said advocates or implies that those two should be released from prison. Nice reach, though.

  • AikidoJoe AikidoJoe says:

Or any other murderer for that matter.

That would seem to make us all as ignorant as the typical FOX viewer.

There are people who won’t go on FNC because they perceive it to be biased against the left. But a lot of other lefties have appeared on FNC and receive(d) a civil reception.

Ms Maddow is inviting a guest but promising that the reception will not be civil. Who in his or her right mind would accept such an invitation?

FWIW, Dick Cheney took Joe Lieberman to school in the 2000 vice-presidential debate. Maddow should be careful what she wishes for — she is no Joe Lieberman.

  • Grammie Grammie says:

Per Maddow, she would conduct any interview with the Cheneys as “I would essentially treat it like a trial.”.

I simply can’t understand why the Cheneys would hesitate to take advantage of that fair minded offer from the ever lovely and gracious Maddow.

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin: Supreme Court Will Not Overrule ‘Deem and Pass’

    video

Bad news for Republicans should they be counting on using the Supreme Court as a last resort to block the Senate health care reform bill. Jeffrey Toobin visited Rick Sanchez today to talk about the chances of success Republicans will have if they try to legally oppose a "deem and pass" vote that would indirectly put the bill on the President's desk, and he didn't waste any time in telling the GOP that, quite simply, it's not going to happen.

CNN’s John King, USA Premieres On Web With Rehearsal Show

    video

There are two very distinct things to note about the way CNN has introduced the upcoming 7pmET show John King, USA to its audience - the show itself and the way it happened. John King hosted a trial run of the program today on CNN.com/live, which gave a sneak peek at what the show will be, but also gave viewers a chance to give their take on the first look.
