Report: Two Packages ‘Explode’ At Government Buildings in Maryland
Reports have surfaced that two packages have allegedly “exploded” earlier today in separate state government buildings in Maryland, according to government officials. Reports are still sketchy as the story is still fluid, but it is currently believed that three to six people may have been injured, though the term “explosion” may be overstating the actual events. Federal, state and local authorities are said to be on the scene at both locations at buildings in Annapolis and Hanover, Maryland.
Manny Fantis from WUSA Reports:
One package was at the Jeffrey Building on Francis Street in downtown Annapolis and another was at the Maryland Department of Transportation building in Hanover.
Rick Abbruzzese, a spokesman for Gov. Martin O’Malley, said cabinet secretaries have been instructed to shut down their mailroom operations and not deliver any mail until an investigation is concluded.
Although there was a reported injury in Annapolis, Abbruzzese said no one was hurt in either incident.
“Both when opened … let off a small type of explosion or flame,” he said.
Reports have also identified the buildings in question are home to both the local office of the Department of Homeland Security and Maryland Department of Transportation among other Government offices.
