I would like to know the answer to this question.

To answer TerryDo, in the event of any question as to whether the target may be concealing weapons (like grenades, an IED, etc), it is standard military procedure I believe, in order to protect oneself and ones’ teammates, to shoot the target in the head.

While the chest is a larger, easier target, it isn’t necessarily an instant kill. Bin Laden’s final act could have been to try and take down as many of the soldiers as possible with him, even if he only had a few seconds to do so.

Shooting the target in the head, while a much smaller target, is far more reliable as an instant kill.

1st It was a “HIT” ordered by the President. Do you understand that? A hit…means he did not want UBL brought back for trial…if they brought him back, then the Pres would have to house him in Guantanamo…how embarrassing it would be for this administration to do that.

Oh Please! Firstly, Osama did not have a gun or any other weapon according to the Seal Team 6 report. And the Seals are trained not to fear nor be flighty in a close situation so needless to say they knew exactly what they were doing.

As to the pic, I feel not releasing at this time is the right call, even if it’ll eventually be released via an FOIA request, as John Cook writes on Gawker.

Right now, I believe releasing the photo would do more harm than good.

Did you see Judge Nap on the FOIA request? According to him BHO is the ultimate authority on the fate of the photos from which there is no appeal.

I’m good with that on more than one level. I have a preference but National Security should come first for us all. If this is the biggest disappointment I have for the rest of my life I’ll count myself blessed.

The partisan craziness of this whole thing is mind boggling. A President the came into office under the guise of change utilized unilateral action to invade a country, and kill an unarmed old man using intelligence initially gleamed from “enhanced interrogation techniques.” Then after the raid is complete, tell a story that must be changed within 24 to 48 hours. (Glad he got that Nobel Peace Prize)

If this would have happened under Bush the Neocons would have been cheering, and the liberals would be in the street in the name of “peace.” Now the roles are fairly reversed.

The only difference between these parties is they letter behind there name. One side wants control, while the other has it.

I don’t care one way or the other if they release the photos. I can live with them or without.

But Obama needs to wake up to reality. When he said how would American’s feel if they killed one of our soldiers and paraded their body around…UMM..HELLO Mr. Pres…they HAVE done that MANY times over! In fact they have taped the killing and put it online. Selective memory or what!? Should we do the same? Oh..we have! Anyone remember Saddam and his sons deaths being put online? So what’s the difference this time?

Al Qaeda and other terrorists groups who hate us won’t change how they feel just because Obama didn’t release any pictures. In fact it will make them think he and we are liars and Osama is alive and well. Releasing the pictures can’t make them any madder than they already are at us. Regardless if the pictures ever come out or not these groups are going to try to retaliate against us for this. That much we can count on!

Eventually these pictures will be leaked, there is no doubt about that.

And on a side note Al Arabiya reported that Osama’s 12 yr old daughter told the Pakistan government that the US soldiers had Osama on the 1st floor and shot him in front of all of the family. CNN is reporting that the daughter saw Osama being shot but they are not telling everything that Al Arabiya reported. Anyone else hear anything else regarding this?

I disagree with you.

I have absolutely no problems, in fact I applaud the raid, the shooting of UBL like the mad dog he is, the intelligence gathered any way necessary to get it etc. I did and do wholeheartedly support drone attacks even with their inherent possibility of targeting essentially innocent people or as collateral damage. My opinion and political activity is the exact same now as it was the day after 911.

My only problem is that those selfsame people, and that includes BHO; Holder; Biden etc, both before and AFTER they came to power, not only criticized that which they themselves just did but carried it so far as to talk of “war crimes”, prosecuting intelligence agencies, releasing Abu Gharab photos with the intent to score political points etc.

These same people just put us thru the charade, especially so in light of these recent events, of the following:

Declassifynig them as “illegal enemy combatants”. It is precisely that designation which justifies the attack and his execution. He was not entitled to the protections of The Geneva Convention. None of them are.

Shutting down the Military Tribunals and working towards trials in our Criminal Courts thereby giving them Constitutional protections b/c they are no longer IEC. Think that one thru to the very end. The Embassy bomber had evidence thrown out b/c of the “fruit of the poisonous tree” legal argument. Using that isn’t the fact that the info came sans all the protections citizens have (enhanced interrogations are just a small part if you use the Constitution as the ruling authority) means we had no right to act upon the info?

I applaud the action. I think it was legally and morally justified. I think the methods used were also both legally and morally justified.

They did not know! The standard procedure is to assume the worst case scenario. Giving the benefit of doubt to a terrorist gets you killed. This was not a police raid.

Wasn’t there a tale wherein someone will be assassinated and that assassination will start WWIII could Osama be the person they were referring to?
