That Was Fast! Americans Now Split On Whether Obama Is A Better Pres. Than Bush

Less than two years after thousands of Inauguration-goers bid a not-so-fond farewell to President Bush’s departing helicopter a new CNN poll says the country is split on whether President Obama is a better president than President George W. Bush.

By 47 to 45 percent, Americans say Obama is a better president than George W. Bush. But that two point margin is down from a 23 point advantage one year ago.

“Democrats may want to think twice about bringing up former President George W. Bush’s name while campaigning this year,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

“But that doesn’t mean that Americans regret their decision to put Obama in the White House in 2008. By a 50 to 42 percent margin, the public says that Obama has done a better job than Sen. John McCain would have done if he had won. And by a 10-point margin, Americans also say that Joe Biden has done a better job than Sarah Palin would have done as vice president,” adds Holland.

American’s apparently have increasingly short memories. Bush always said that history would prove him right, but probably no one, including Bush, figured on a twenty month turnaround. Perhaps Obama can take hope from these results: no matter how badly he screws things up during his presidency he will only have to leave office to be loved once again. A maneuver Sarah Palin has lately perfected.

They’d better up the King’s meds after this one.

At least Bush didn’t PRETEND to be an intellectual!

Obama is LOST without his pepared text, and he simply regurgitates talking points whenever he’s sans teleprompter!
Despite the left-wing media’s fawning over how intelligent he is, he’s shown little ability to articulate reasoned responses, and exhibits a decided proclivity toward misrepresentation, prevarication, and outright deceit!!

He’s a Carnival Barker, and nothing more!!

Asking this question is like asking who is a better pole vaulter – Rosie O’Donnell or Aretha Franklin.

Yeah, they ran out of kool-aid.

Glynnis sounds like you doesn’t belive it? There is NO doubt that Obama is the worst president ever and it won’t take long for the American people to understand that too.

  • More Liberty

This is just another example of how these two parties are pretty much the same. Bu$h ignored the US Constitution, and Obama’$ actions prove that he could give a rats a$$ about the Constitution.

“American’s apparently have increasingly short memories.”

I think its more likely that they see how the media treats Democrats/Obama and have figured out their treatment of Bush was purely political.

What did this article have to do with Sarah Palin? Is there a daily quota re: bashing that must be met?

Bush did several stupid things while in office, I don’t think anyone can or would want to argue that point. However, he had 8 years to screw up. Obama is done more damage in 2. And the left wonders why America is waking up! I think Obama could be one of the best things to happen to this country. It has made the conservatives stand up and begin paying attention and MAKING their voice be heard. They are saying, “Listen to us…or you’re fired.”

“…and if you don’t agree with us you don’t get a say!” That’s pretty much what I hear frequently from Cons in general. You hear a couple of loons on the Left try that but when it comes to Cons it seems to be universally enforced that if someone disagrees they should be silenced and shunned. The vocal minority over powering rationality.

Yes, like that Fairness Doctrine that “conservatives” like Nancy Pelosi, Cass Sunstein, and many Dems in Congress support passage of. Shame on all of these “conservatives” in office that support passage of something that would give the federal government control of what “leftists” like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck say on the air.

“At least Bush didn’t PRETEND to be an intellectual!”

    He did one thing right.

Sorry to disappoint, but they don’t hand out Harvard law degrees – or the presidency of the Law Review – to anyone who shows up. Bush got his MBA largely due to his family connections and $$$. Obama had to earn his degree based on merit and hard work, not coast through on “Gentleman’s C’s” like Bush.

Do you work on a “per post” or a “per word” basis? Your rabid excessiveness smells like “paid poster.”

“Glynnis sounds like you doesn’t belive it? ”

    Dooze it?

“There is NO doubt that Obama is the worst president ever”

Keep kissing right-wing ass, gordumb. Somebody at Fake Snews is BOUND to fish your demo file out of their recycle bin. Yeah, right.

“Obama’$ actions prove that he could give a rats a$$ about the Constitution.”

Obama hasn’t started any illegal wars and is not an admitted war criminal, unlike his predecessor. He hasn’t steamrolled the constitutional process when it suited him – also unlike his predecessor. Your conclusion is thus flawed.

Glyniss is comparing Bush and Palin. Approval ratings for both have risen since each left office. It’s a fair comparison. You can’t just read what’s written: you need to comprehend its larger meaning and intent.

“Bush . . . had 8 years to screw up. Obama is done more damage in 2.”

How so? How many illegal wars did Obama start? How many needless deaths did he cause? How many terrorism warnings did he ignore? How many horse show judges did he hire for crucial positions? Your assertion is absurd.

    “All of the Democrats just . . . .”

Thanks for your profound insight. Where’s a moderator when you need one?

The traditional fairness doctrine required broadcasters to provide public service programming and opportunities for opposing viewpoints in return for obtaining and retaining their licenses. Broadcasters didn’t want to bother honoring such provisions because they couldn’t make money on advertising during such programming. Worse, they might have to air opinions they didn’t like. As a result, the fairness doctrine was dropped years ago and is unlikely to return.

We are all poorer for its demise. God forbid you should hear something you don’t like!

Is Obama the greatest president ever? Probably not, though it’s far too soon to come to any conclusions. Was Bush the worst? Arguably, yes. Nixon was the only other outright “criminal-in-chief” and might be considered worse.

A lot of us are hurting right now. It’s easy to blame whoever is in the Oval Office. If and when our circumstances improve we’ll reconsider Bush’s legacy. It won’t be pretty.

This is funny stuff. Yes, people are angry and, yes, polls are almost meaningless unless they agree with one’s views and, yes, the editors at Mediaite revel in throwing red meat to their reactionary audience. Bush and his crew should be prosecuted and, perhaps, jailed for their crimes against humanity. Iraq will go down as one of America’s biggest blunders, ever. A totally unnecessary war based on lies that any well informed person knew at that time to be lies. You compassionate conservatives can’t even begin to relate to the murder and mayhem we’ve caused in the middle east, not to mention the American and allied soldiers still being killed. And then there were all the wonderfully qualified people Bush brought in who undermined and deregulated every area of government and allowed Bush’s Wall Street ‘base’ to rape and pillage our economy. Of course, this stupid black man is responsible for all our woes. Gosh, you TeaBaggers are pathetic, and there’s a good chance you’ll have some egg in your face in a few weeks. Regardless, Obama’s hardly served half his term and he undoubtedly will go down as one of the better Presidents we’ve had.

  • Truth

What is the point of this poll? You compare 8 years to 2 years? Root cause of most of the controversy of the 2 parties is the media. This is a good example of it. The set of problems facing these two presidents were completely different in the first 2 years of their presidency. Bush was faced with dealing with 9/11 and Obama with a near meltdown of the US economy. Both these guys have had a rough go of it in their first two years. How about we ask the same question at the end of Obama’s 8 year term?

That is pretty bold to assume that he will be there that long.

Thanks for putting in a plug for Sarah, Glynnis, but I think the story is really about Pres Obama and former Pres Bush. BTW, remember when the very thought was “creepy”?

In less than 2 years the phrase “Obama said” has become a punchline.

As fast as it was imagine how much faster if 95% of the media were not fluffing Obama at every tuen.

My dad used to listen to Limbaugh all afternoon and to get his goat, I’d occasionally tell him that Bill Clinton was the greatest President during my lifetime. Now, I’d probably give it a tie between Clinton and Obama because not only would it get his blood a-pumping, but though Obama has accomplished a lot, Bill was much better at playing the game.

Exactly. It’s amazing how much the media covers for the liberals. Amazing, but understandable.

Yeah, that’s why the MAJORITY of the people think he’s doing a bad job.

Compare them if you like, but Obama already has proven to be the worst President, Senator, politician and person ever to step foot inside the beltway.

There is a major difference here. Bush did what he had to do, unless you think as some he was behind 911. Once Terror became the enemy this world would never be the same again. Bush at least kept the killing on their soil, not ours. Obama let two of them in and only stupid luck or bad terrorists saved many lives on OUR soil. Yes Bush spent money on war, but to keep Americans safe, and plz dont whine to me about oil, it was blood not oil. AMERICAN BLOOD. Bush may not ever be counted as the best or even a great President but I am grateful it was him in the WhiteHouse for that 8 years rather than some wine and cheese expert from the left. Thank you Mr President Bush

If you’re all we’ve got to go on, I would be inclined to agree. Fortunately, not all Americans are as utterly and hopelessly stupid as you.
