The Royal Engagement Becomes Official: Prince William To Marry Kate Middleton

Queen Elizabeth is “delighted” and “Waity Katie” is no more: Prince William will marry Kate Middleton will become a Princess (and someday, Queen).

The announcement, that the Royal couple would marry in spring or summer ’11, came down around 6amET, and the American broadcast shows have been airing all their pre-packaged reports this morning.

Here are some details from ABC’s GMA:

Prince William, 28, asked Middleton, also 28, to marry him while the two were on vacation in Kenya last month, the statement said. The two met nearly a decade ago while students at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. The relationship garnered some controversy because Middleton does not come from royalty and royals are generally expected to wed other aristocrats.

The Queen said she is “absolutely delighted” for the couple, Buckingham Palace said today.

It is how the morning shows began their broadcast, complete with “royal” music to kick off the show (as you can see below from the Today show). “This has been speculated about, this has been discussed for years,” said Ann Curry, in for Matt Lauer, who she said must be “kicking himself” for missing this.

While the American media are excited for the wedding, and the coverage in the run-up to the wedding will be massive, just wait to see what the British press have to say.

She’s lovely by the way. After so many pants-suit and jeans wearing angry incoherent American women political and public figures, it’s nice to see a lady who obviously enjoys being a lady again. Maybe, it will become a trend and cross the Pond. What a happy day that would be.

You have to hand it to HRH The Princess of Wales, of fond memory, for plugging up that leaking gene pool, don’t you? Can you imagine if Camilla had been the mother of the the Princes Royal? A veritable puppy mill. IIt would have made the Wasilla brood appear sophisticated and urbane.

You do know that Britain is an island, surrounded by seas, as most islands are, consisting of England, Wales and Scotland, and there are many cows to be found there, although fewer in Wales? I’ve never heard a cow fart in England. I may have in Scotland, but it could have merely been a hoof being pulled from the gluey mud. However, I have no doubt British cows fart as they are wont to do elsewhere. As for the kilt, it seems a much more convenient way for the TSA to access our respective junk.

A little off-topic, but I saw a piece on the evening news about William and he seems to be at least six-four, maybe even six-six as he leaned way over to congratulate some Brit soldiers in Afghanistan. Looks like Kate is a tall one too, like William and Harry’s mom. Glad they took after her. Daddy and Camilla ain’t ready for prime time, and may never be—he’s done an Andy Sullivan/Arianna Huffington 180-Uturn and now spouts the latest agitprop from the loathsome left.

Was that nasty? Wasn’t meant to be. I meant it when I said good for them. Great couple. He’s a search and rescue helicopter pilot, she’s a rare beauty. It’s the whack job Prince Charles that the sarcasm was directed at.

As for the possibility of constant royal marriage coverage coming our way, let me say this:

Anderson wasted almost half the show tonight on this ridiculous story while spending only a few minutes on the Rangel conviction. I don’t consider this “real news”, it is nothing more than tabloid garbage. Two arrogant elitists get married, so what? Why are they important? What is their talent?

I wonder how long it will be before they get divorced?
