There Is a New Conservative Version of Facebook Called ‘ReaganBook’

A group of conservatives who think Facebook has become too liberal has launched an alternative they are calling — what else? — ReaganBook. Right Wing Watch was the first to report on the big announcement of the site, which Janet Porter made at a “Reload 4 Liberty” event sponsored by the Ohio Liberty Coalition over the weekend.

As Porter, a founder of group Faith2Action, explained it, Facebook has been “censoring” people who believe in things like “traditional marriage,” citing one friend who she said was kicked off the site just for expressing his conservative views. She revealed the “pre-launch” of a brand new “Facebook for patriots” called ReaganBook. “We’re tearing down walls of tyranny, of censorship,” she told the audience at the event. Get it?

Well, the message is spreading. It has a long way to go before it reaches Facebook’s more-than 1 billion monthly active users, but the site is up, running and semi-functional. It even dutifully mimics Facebook’s color scheme and fonts. People can sign up in just a couple of easy steps and as of Tuesday afternoon, July 29th, the site publicly lists all 142 users.

But something tells us not everyone who has signed up on the site is a true believer in all things Reagan. Unlike the real Facebook, the site seems to have taken no steps to make sure people are signing up under their actual identities. Here are just some of the names on the list that stick out as being a bit suspect:

Bapp R. Money (from the Cayman Islands)

Barry Goldwater (born in 1909)

Barry Obummercare

Chazwomp Hogswallow

Chuck Norris

Corn Holely O

Dick Trickle

Fake Name

G Gordon Liddy

Gip McGipperson

HappyAndGay Linus

Iran Contra

John Lenin (from the Russian Federation)

ProHomo ESexual

Reagan Cum Shot

Ronald Reagan

Supply Side Jesus

Truth Boner

Zombie Reagan

Off to a great start, guys!

Update — July 30, 4:45 p.m. ET: One day after the site made its big public debut, the management was forced to take ReaganBook offline in order to protect against the “obscenity” and “pornography” that was already starting to overtake the platform. They are vowing to bring it back after more protections are put in place.

Read the full statement below:

Thank you to all those who participated in the pre-release of ReaganBook.com Your participation is helping us build a more secure site. Thank you! Please be patient while we make the necessary changes to keep the site free from obscenity, pornography, and those intent on the destruction of life, liberty, and the family. We will be opening the doors again soon with additional protections in place. As Reagan taught us, trust, but verify.
