Maggie Haberman Stunned by ‘Angry’ Trump’s Response to Question About Jeanine Pirro: ‘It Was Shocking’

CNN commentator Maggie Haberman said she was taken aback by President Donald Trump’s “shocking” refusal to say that Jeanine Pirro’s job as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia is “safe.”

Last Friday, Pirro moved to drop a felony charge of destruction of government property against David Hearn, a former U.S. Olympian. The Department of Justice’s criminal complaint alleged that Hearn had damaged the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, the renovation of which Trump has personally overseen. In her motion to dismiss, Pirro stated that the Department of Interior, which oversees the pool, had failed to give her the relevant information before she decided to bring the charge, and that the issues with the pool are due to a “botched installation.”

Trump responded by angrily saying Pirro “choked” in the case and doubled down on his claim that Hearn and others committed acts of vandalism. On Wednesday, shortly before Trump boarded Air Force One, a reporter asked if Pirro’s job is “safe,” to which he replied, “Uh, I haven’t made a determination.”

Haberman joined Thursday’s installment of The Source, where Kaitlan Collins noted that Haberman and other reporters had accompanied the president.

“When you hear what’s going on with Jeanine Pirro and the president refused to tell y’all the other night, he basically said he doesn’t know if he’s gonna fire her or not,” the host said. “And to hear him answer that way was pretty remarkable.”

“It was shocking,” Haberman replied. “He looked visibly angry. And granted, it was nighttime, and it was under a giant plane wing. And he spoke to us for, I think, a total of eight minutes on this trip. That was all the press got with him. But he was clearly very angry.”

“With her?” Collins said.

“With her,” Haberman responded. “He tried to walk it back a little bit today… but it doesn’t really matter. It’s in the air, and it’s known what happened.”
