White House Sources Say New Press Secretary Will Be Jay Carney

After several weeks of speculation that began with current White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ announcement that he is leaving the White House in February, a successor to Gibbs has finally been named. According to several news sources, including ABC News’ Jake Tapper, White House sources confirm that the new Press Secretary will be Vice President Joe Biden‘s Communications Director, Jay Carney.

From Jake Tapper’s Political Punch blog:

White House insiders say Robert Gibbs’ replacement as White House press secretary will be Jay Carney, the current communications director for the Vice President, though the president has yet to inform Carney or any of the other candidates — deputy communications director Jen Psaki, in particular, but also deputy press secretaries Bill Burton and Josh Earnest — of his decision.

As of yet, Carney’s start date is unknown. Prior to joining Joe Biden’s staff, Carney was with Time Magazine for twenty years, the last three as the magazine’s Washington Bureau Chief.

Tommy, you’d better starting making a list of those hard-hitting questions about Palin’s hair and make-up in case he calls on you.

There has not been a great press secretary in many decades.
The only one who rates even a grade of (B) is Mike McCurry. The rest are all mediocre to bad. That’s why Gibbs is called Baghdad Bob; he stands there in front of the entire country and denies the obvious.

Good luck to you Jay Carney. Try not to become a buffoon.

I disagree Steve, I really liked Tony Snow and Ari Flescher.

    What about Olbermann?

Carney is married to Claire Shipman of ABC News. I don’t recognize her, but apparently she’s quite the good little liberal: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/scott-whitlock/2011/01/27/claire-shipmans-husband-named-new-obama-press-secretary-conflict-int.

Yeah…because they are Republicans. I liked Fleisher as welland the last Clinton WH spokesman. I forget his name.

So? Where did the Bush white house snatch the late Tony Snow from again? Of course the white house press secretary will be a new person and be of the same ideology as the President. Duh!

For what it’s worth, my favorites for the job were Bill Burton (current white house deputy press sec) or Geoff Morell (current Pentagon spokesman.) Those are two solid guys who have experience for that job. We’ll see how Carney does.
