“This is why we’re not invited,” an amused (and sometimes confused) Bill O’Reilly told Glenn Beck Friday night as they attempted to decipher what the guests at this week’s Chinese state dinner were actually eating. After an extensive analysis that included trying to uncover the mysteries of fennel (“I don’t know what that is!”) and black trumpet mushrooms (“that’s a mushroom that plays an instrument?”), the pair decided maybe it was best they were left out.

For better or worse, the scope of the word “celebrity” appears to ever be expanding, and while it’s common to see it used nowadays for people in YouTube videos or reality TV stars, watching our president get the celebrity treatment will never not be bizarre. The latest celebrity treatment Barack Obama is unfortunate enough to be getting comes from the UK’s Daily Mail, who dare ask whether the President’s “new” hair color is synthetic.

Only Stephen Colbert has the very unique position in which he can criticize conservative opinion media personalities in a way that both “celebrates” and slams the often absurd game of rankling political correctness with so-called comedy bits. Take for example Rush Limbaugh‘s recent impersonation of Chinese President Hu Jintao, a bit that many found culturally insensitive. Colbert played the clip and also found it insensitive, but only because it was too similar to his own “Ching Chong Ding Dong” character.

After a week of whoppers that would choke the Hamburglar, culminating in a starring role in Keith Olbermann‘s Special Comment, Gateway Pundit‘s Jim Hoft tried to lighten things up by “reporting” that “Michelle Obama’s Dress Slips Off at Commie Red China Obama State Dinner.”

The slight blog post turns out to be a snarky fashion critique (a hallmark of the right-o-sphere, didn’t you know?), but the lascivious headline and targeting of the First Lady illustrate the right’s hypocrisy on the “family value” of keeping families off-limits. (h/t Oliver Willis)

On Parker Spitzer last night, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) told hosts Kathleen Parker and Eliot Spitzer that China should be treated as a “gangster regime that murders their own people.” Rohrbacher spoke of a history of human rights violations by China, focusing on the “ongoing repression of religion,” can specifically called out Chinese President Hu Jintao, who is currently in Washington D.C. on a diplomatic visit.

At today’s press conference, Bloomberg TV White House correspondent Hans Nichols persistently pressed China’s Hu Jintao to answer his question concerning human rights in his country. Hu said that, initially, he did not hear questions about human rights “because of the technical translation and interpretation problem,” but, now that he’d heard the question, he was “certainly in a position to answer it.”

Earlier on his radio show, Rush Limbaugh complained about the joint press conference with Chinese President Hu Jintao and how Jintao was not being translated. To illustrate his complaint, he spent 15 seconds doing an impression of the foreign leader, complete with a bunch of guttural “ching ching chongs” like the grade school approximation of what the Chinese language sounds like. There will inevitably be a backlash from Asian and anti-defamation groups. The only question now is, will it be as bad as it was for Rosie O’Donnell in 2006?

As the G20 summit rolls around, you might be wondering what exactly is going on and what’s at stake. Fortunately, the good people at Taiwan’s NMA News have explained it the only way they know how; with a nearly four-minute rap battle between President Obama (accompanied by his posse, Uncle Sam and Timothy Geithner) and Chinese President Hu Jintao (accompanied by his posse, a couple of dancing pandas).

In fact, Barack Obama got his turn first, in the opening sketch depicting a joint press conference between Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
