Along the way, Time magazine’s Mark Halperin‘s (heavily disclaimed) assessment that the raid is “controversial” caused co-host Mika Brzezinski to ask the crystallizing question “What’s controversial about killing Osama bin Laden?”

The death of Osama bin Laden sent millions to their computers to catch up on the story by watching web video, with NBC News digital and Today.com having its second best day ever, with 21 million streams by 6 p.m. Monday evening. Of the top twenty most popular videos, all were related to the capture and killing of bin Laden.

The most-viewed video had 3 million streams, and was a TODAY show report by NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski on the operation that successfully landed SEALS into bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan.

A U.S. military fighter jet crashed in Libya overnight after an apparent equipment malfunction, but its two crew members ejected safely and have been recovered, the U.S. military said Tuesday.

Both crew members used parachutes to eject from their F-15E Strike Eagle jet at high altitudes and sustained minor injuries, Vince Crawley, a spokesman for the Africa Command, told The Associated Press.
