If there’s one thing you can say about Kim Jong-il (and chances are there’s gonna be; his life seemed particularly thing sayable), it’s that his death was much better than most of the dictators and enemies of America that have been dropping like flies lately. That’s why his body is currently resting in a gorgeous, glass coffin and not being dragged through the streets or tossed into the ocean by a group of American soldiers. Recently, North Korean television aired footage of Jong-il’s body.

It’s some fairly static images but, from what I’ve gathered, it’s still more interesting than most North Korean television.

Who knew? Who thought it possible that your day could be ruined by a simple tweet? Well, that’s what happened for anyone following BBC World News America anchor Katty Kay who, yesterday, tweeted a report of a specialized torture technique employed by Muammar Gaddafi during his decades-long rule of Libya. Kay described the technique as the “stuff of nightmares” and…yeah. That’s a pretty good description.

We don’t post too many movie trailers on this site (just campaign ads horribly edited to look like them), but this one certainly caught our attention. Sacha Baron Cohen AKA the Hairy Chameleon (a nickname I just made up) has done a pretty great job so far of making satires that perfectly parody elements of our society. Borat took on American xenophobia and ignorance of foreign cultures while Bruno tackled homophobia. His skill at choosing timely targets appears to be as strong as ever as the trailer for his latest movie, The Dictator, arrived today. In it, Baron Cohen plays General Aladeen, a dictator of a fictional Middle Eastern country very much like any of the rulers who seem to be dropping like flies these days.

Several weeks after his father, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, was captured and killed by rebel forces attempting to leave the nation he governed for more than forty years, his son and heir, Saif al-Islam, was found attempting to flee to Niger yesterday and taken to the northern town of Zintan. Today, video has surfaced of the younger Gaddafi being transported by the airplane, while the interim leader of the country promised a fair trial for crimes against humanity.

This week began with a series of raids on Occupy movement encampments across the country, and an admission by Oakland Mayor Jean Quan that 18 municipalities had participated in conference calls on how to deal with the camps. Filmmaker Michael Moore, a vocal and visible supporter of the Occupy Wall Street movement, responded by accusing President Obama, via Twitter, of giving the “green light” for the raids. It’s just the latest in a series of unhinged attacks on the President, by Moore. What gives?

They had to do it one last time. The cold open for tonight’s episode was Fred Armisen’s Ghost of Muammar Gaddafi offering some advice from beyond the grave. “Don’t dare people to kill you,” he cautioned. Also, “never refer to your people as rats.” He also noted that it’s nearly impossible to reason with a mob, especially when everyone in it is determined to kill you.

On Fox News’ America’s Newsroom this morning, reporter David Piper, tuning in from Tripoli, shared that some people “in the know” are suggesting that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton played a vital role in the eventual capture of ousted — and now deceased — Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

President Obama stopped by the Tonight Show today, his fourth time chatting with Jay Leno (second while actually in the White House). There he discussed his reaction to Muammar Gaddafi’s death as well as the race amongst GOP contenders On the latter, Obama said he wouldn’t start paying much attention until some more of them are “voted off the island.”

Um, Mr. President, that’s the wrong network. On NBC, you have to see which Republican candidate loses the most weight.

A few weeks ago, Glenn Beck garnered a lot of headlines by saying that the Occupy Wall Street protests would lead to people being dragged out into the street and shot. Unsurprisingly then, he was quick to see a connection when video surfaced of Muammar Gaddafi, well, being dragged out into the street and shot. Said Beck, “This is what democracy looks like.”

On Fox News Sunday this weekend, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) continued the tradition of politicizing foreign policy by accusing President Obama of politicizing foreign policy, telling anchor Chris Wallace that “Iraq and Afghanistan is being run out of Chicago, not Washington, in terms of decisions.” Graham also beat the familiar drum that “Israel has been thrown under the bus” by the administration, falsely claiming that the President’s “standing in the state of Israel is very low,” despite the fact that 81% of Israelis approve of his policies.

On Sunday morning’s Reliable Sources, host Howard Kurtz took the media to task for having roundly criticized President Obama‘s decision to get involved in Libya, but failing to give the President credit for Muammar Gaddafi‘s killing at anywhere near the same volume. “The media wallowed for months in criticism of the Libya policy,” Kurtz said,  ”Why don’t they stop now, give some credit to the President when a brutal regime is toppled, and the policy is successful?”

What a difference a week makes. Following his rocket ride to the top of the GOP presidential field, and a Bloomberg/Washington Post debate performance that made a star of his “9-9-9 plan,” former pizza mogul Herman Cain has rapidly become a media punchline. That arc culminated Sunday morning when This Week host Christiane Amanpour opened her interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by asking “Are you in Herman Cain’s famously designated ‘Beki-beki-beki-bekistan?’”

In an interview with Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday, Michele Bachmann doubled down on her opposition to the United States getting involved in the Libyan conflict, saying it was “wrong for the United States to go into Libya.” Wallace questioned whether Muammar Gaddafi would still be in power if she had been president. “Well he may be, but I stand by that decision.”

It’s been an earth-shattering week for Middle Eastern dictators, and with the fall of Muammar Gaddafi, many in the region are turning their eyes towards Syria’s Bashar al-Assad and Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, as their people continue to struggle (though less violently) from within to free themselves from their regime. Ahmadinejad, meanwhile, is doing a round of media in America, talking to Fareed Zakaria in an interview airing tomorrow on CNN, and asking that the international community respect Syria’s relationship with its citizens.

Bill Maher opened tonight’s Real Time by dedicating much of his monologue to calling out Republicans for not giving President Obama credit for helping kill Muammar Gaddafi. “They’re like the banks, they will not give a black man credit!” Maher zinged.

Since Muammar Gaddafi‘s capture and death yesterday, more video has been released that paints a clearer picture of how the former Libyan ruler was detained. According to GlobalPost’s Tracey Shelton, rebel fighter Ali Algadi filmed the stunning footage on his iPhone immediately after Gaddafi was discovered in a water drain. This is the earliest video evidence to be unearthed so far that illustrates how Gaddafi was captured. “Dont’ kill him! Don’t kill him! We need him alive!” shout the rebel fighters.

As the snarling strains of “Another One Bites The Dust” echo on the world stage that is now rid of Muammar Gaddafi, and some Republicans rush to diminish any role that President Obama might have had in his demise, the producers of Fox and Friends know just where to turn to sort it all out. Host Brian Kilmeade assembled a panel made up of BreitbartTV editor Larry O’Connor, singer Judy Collins, and former SNL actor Joe Piscopo to debate former Rep. Pete Hoekstra‘s suggestion that the President give back his Nobel Peace Prize.

Geraldo Rivera knows a thing or two about Libya and Muammar Gaddafi, having covered their collective story for almost two decades. So it was somewhat predictable for Fox and Friends to invite him to the “curvy couch” to discuss yesterday’s news of Gaddafi’s death. What was somewhat surprising for long time viewers of the Fox News morning program, was Rivera’s championing of President Obama’s record on foreign policy.

We’d driven the entire previous day and about an hour that morning, reaching the upper rim of Ngorongoro crater while the sun was still low. We’d passed two young Maori boys, who offered to pose for pictures with us in exchange for a thousand shillings. Their cows, untended, began to stray back toward the circular village lower in the valley. At the entrance of the road down into the crater, our guide explained that armed guards patrolled the crater, a wildlife refuge, and were trained to shoot poachers on sight. Sure enough, there was just such a guard, Kalashnikov slung lazily over his shoulder, bleary-eyed, in a bulky sweater. And, there in remote Tanzania, he was wearing a knit cap with a layered N and Y approximating the Yankees logo.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in the midst of a series of news interviews yesterday when news broke that Muammar Gaddafi had been captured. So press pool cameras were rolling at the very moment that Clinton learned of unconfirmed reports of Gaddafi’s capture, which elicited a stately “wow!” Shortly there after, the same cameras captured the moment she learned that Gaddafi was dead, which had the Secretary of State joyously proclaiming “we came, we saw, he died!”

Thursday night on the Daily Show, Jon Stewart tackled the big headline of the day: The death of Muammar Gaddafi… Specifically, the right’s reaction to the former dictator’s passing.
Stewart kicked things off by offering a “Dic-Tip.” (Ay, you guys… D: D: D: ) His advice to dictators? “Don’t hide in holes.” Because you will be found and probably killed, and people may celebrate by tossing their young children while others fire guns into the air.

Fox News’ Sean Hannity brought former Alaska governor Sarah Palin onto his show to weigh in on the death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and to speculate on what the future may hold for the Libyan people.

On Thursday’s edition of John King USA on CNN, Senator John McCain graciously congratulated President Obama for the fall of Muammar Gaddafi. “The fact is this is another success for the Obama administration,” McCain acknowledged.

Today on The Five, Eric Bolling (taking a page from one of Drudge’s more inspired headlines) asked Greg Gutfeld if he was surprised that a Nobel Peace Prize-winning president had killed so many people with Predator drones. A debate over President Obama and President Bush’s dictator-toppling tactics and the reactions to them followed.
