Everyone knows that the information contained in the magazines sold near supermarket checkout lines is generally unsubstantiated at best and flat-out false at worse. But which tabloids are the most dishonest?

OK! “Confirms” That Jessica Simpson Is Pregnant (Having Forgotten What the Word “Confirm” Means)

Look, we know that tabloid magazines lie. That’s a given. Even their most ardent fans don’t actually, deep down believe the stuff they’re reading. But there are some standards that should be kept. Standards like, I don’t know, the English language. That’s why this Gossip Cop story about OK! Magazine (they of the similarly ridiculous Jennifer Aniston pregnancy report) and their cover touting a “confirmed” pregnancy for Jessica Simpson is so insulting. The word “confirmed” kind of means something.

Nobody would be that shocked to discover that celebrity gossip tabloids occasionally print false statements, but, earlier today, Gossip Cop caught OK! Magazine (a magazine whose title is either a shouted declaration or the name of a musical) printing a cover story that goes beyond the typical level of tabloid lies. The magazine cover proudly proclaims a story about Jennifer Aniston’s baby plans that Aniston’s reps told Gossip Cop is all sorts of untrue. Come on, OK! Magazine, we expect better from you. You’re supposed to be a celebrity gossip tabloid, not a British celebrity gossip tabloid.

California’s New Anti-Paparazzi Law: Bad News For Celeb Weeklies and NYC

A new law in California will allow residents of the state to sue any media outlet that first publishes a picture that violates a “reasonable expectation of privacy” or was taken forcibly. The amendment also introduces civil fines of up to $50,000. What does that mean for the celebrity press and the rest of a star-obsessed nation?
