And The Jury Finds Mob Boss Whitey Bulger…
Reputed mobster James “Whitey” Bulger was found guilty on Monday afternoon of multiple counts of murder, racketeering, and conspiracy, crimes stemming from his days as a leader of an organized crime syndicate in Boston. Any number of the charges could carry life sentences for the eighty-three year old defendant.
Bulger was wanted for years in connection with nineteen killings he allegedly orchestrated in the 80s as part of the Winter Hill Gang. He disappeared from the Boston area in the early nineties and was discovered in 2011 living in Santa Monica, California.
Bulger’s defense sought to undermine the credibility of witnesses testifying against him, arguing that they had entered into plea deals with the government in exchange for testimony against their client. Bulger himself was an FBI informant for a time before escaping federal prosecution.
The jury has been deliberating since Tuesday of last week.
