The rating system for cable and network TV is as reliable as most polls, which is to say almost meaningless. From what I can make out somewhere between 10-15% of the population watches Fox regularly. Many of these are the elderly and couch potatos who have nothing better to do, sadly enough, than watch TV. The rest are rightwing ideologues who feed on the fair and balance reporting which is anything but fair and balanced. The rest of television isn’t much better except they tend to be a bit more informative. It’s almost impossible to get an objective view of what’s going on in this country and the world except for foreign news outlets like the BBC and PBS is fairly good and, of course, there’s C-Span which is great. Much of the rest of television watching is wasteland watching and a waste of time. It’s not surprising that FOX has such a large viewership because no other channels would stoop as low and pander as much as FOX. Ruppert Murdoch is today’s Joseph Goebbels who was the wonderful fellow who shaped and sculpted Adolph Hitler and brought us the ‘Big Lie’ method of modern propaganda.
