Chris Matthews On Donald Trump’s Effect On GOP Primary: ‘Is This Going To Be A Carnival?’

Video

Chris Matthews is not sure what Donald Trump truly believes, but given his repeated references to President Obama’s birth certificate and an upcoming speaking engagement in Iowa, Matthews thinks Trump might actually be serious about running for President. If Trump does run though, Matthews wonders whether the Republican nomination process is “going to be a carnival?”

Guests David Corn and Steve Kornacki disagree that Trump is really serious about starting a campaign. Corn suggests that since Celebrity Apprentice ends in June, Trump is just eager for the media spotlight to continue after the show is over. Kornacki doubts that Trump will even get close to forming an exploratory committee, since Trump will not want to disclose any information and since Trump made similar rumblings in 1999 that went nowhere.

However, Matthews is not convinced that Trump should be dismissed, especially since he is already polling well amongst Republican voters. Despite Matthews declaring that businessmen typically turn out to be terrible politicians, Matthews clearly thinks Trump is more interesting than most of the other likely Republican candidates. Finally, and coming straight from the random analogy department, Matthews worries that when he was a kid he didn’t like the peas on his plate touching the mashed potatoes. Similarly(?), Matthews asks whether Trump’s injection into the Republican race might spoil the chances of more serious candidates who might look even more boring by comparison?

Matthews On Donald Trump’s Effect On GOP Primary: ‘Is This Going To Be A Carnival?’

As one of the main geeks in the MSNBC sideshow , Matthews knows the carnival business .

Look up what a carnival geek does .

  • Liberal Tormentor

    My show is absolutely non-partisan.

Chris “I have an Obama shaped tingle running up my leg and into my nether regions” Matthews

  • Garth

Palin, Trump, Newt, Howdy Doody – seems like a carnival.

  • WildMan

Chris Matthews, PMSnbc’s Village Idiot, should know by now that the only Carnival in town is himself, Chrissy Tingles and his silly beyond belief show, Softball.

Seriously is Chris as stupid and ignorant as he comes across or is it some kind of mental illness that makes him come across to his tiny audience as the goofiest thing anyone has ever seen? It is like watching an 8 year old with an IQ of 60.No wonder he has absolutely, positively no chance of getting within a million or three viewers of FOX News and/or CNN. What is the purpose of his show?

  • joe7

Then maybe Chris should have him on. Still It’ll probably turn into a whole interview about birthers which seems to be a favorite of his that they wont let go. Still The Donald’s comments were ridiculous but he would have been ridiculed on Hardball regardless

The irony lost on Matthews is , nobody takes him seriously .. except the writers on Mediaite.

And if there’s one thing Tingles know… it’s carnival acts.

It’s like a GOP Giligan’s island with these forks. I’m picking my fantasy white house team right now. I’m still debating who I want as my Treasury secretary Angle or Christie “I’m not a witch” O’Donnell. Decisions, decisions.

Trump obviously sensed a vacuum at this stage of the game, so he inserted himself into it by having connections with national media and his own publicity machine.

As long as the media will pay attention to him and as Kornacki says, he doesn’t have to file any paperwork or make any disclosures under oath, he’ll keep his mug in front of the camera because the speculation is flattering and it boosts his brand.

But in the end, Trump isn’t dumb; He doesn’t want to work that hard. He really doesn’t have anything of depth to say and a New York real estate developer, who doubles as a New Jersey casino operator probably isn’t looking for close scrutiny or a Whitewater investigation.

Brainstem, Irony is laughing at someone that you view as a carnival act when you are in fact a carnival act. I’m not surprised you had trouble figuring that one out. It appears one of your other personalities has custody of the brain today.

If anyone knows about “carnivals”, it’s Luna-Crat Chris Matthews. His entire life has revolved around, and inside, nothing but a carnival!

But, at least he still get a “thrill up” his “leg” every time his man-crush Mr O-Bummer is around. Man, I wish he would have adhered to “Don’t ask, don’t tell”, before he ever said that.

    That mental image is… horrifying…

  • SeanW

Sorry Chris, you all turned this into a “carnival” on Tuesday July 27, 2004 when you all christened Obama your messiah.

  • Pokerdude777

If Mathews was relevant or current, he would know that Donald already stated he would more than likely run as an Independent IF he runs. It’s doubtful he will run but if he does he will meet the same fate as another rich egotistical maniac business guy Ross Perot.

It’s only 7:20, you better make a liquor & smokes run. Lot of us “baggers’ out tonight to snipe at!!

  • ganymede

First of all, I really don’t get all the dislike for Chris Matthews. He must have an average audience somewhere between 300,000-500,000 (I’m sure one of you bean counters will correct me). That’s a sizeable number of people who take him seriously, and he is a bright, interesting, sharp guy. It seems that many of the Mediaite crowd tune into him if only to put him down. The reason that a lot of liberal/progressive people don’t watch FOX is because it’s boring and doesn’t advance one’s knowledge one iota, very much unlike MSNBC. As for the adventures of Donald Trump – I work in New York real estate and I’ve met The Donald on a few occasions and while he may be a dynamic real estate honcho, he is not taken seriously about anything out of the realm of real estate and gotcha TV. He is no better informed, especially since he is a New Yorker, about political, social or personal reality than Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann, etc. The Republican Party is in infinitely worse shape than even the Democrat Party, and his emergence as a potential candidate is a telling sign of how desperate they are.

We’re just not going to read of any media personalities criticizing the president and the Libyan operation, are we?…

It’s just going to be blog after blog about those oh-so-craven FNC personalities and oh-so-dumb Republican presidential possibilities, with Stewart or Cobert jibs thrown in to further emphasis the superfluousness.

    It’s like rose-colored glasses/reassurance for progressives….

Until something really awful happens in Libya that’s too big to ignore, the stories will be about Fox, Beck, Palin, etc etc etc…

Why is Matthews talking about the GOP instead of the internal desintegration of the Dem party?
I think the Dems showing themselves as no better then the neo-con republicans is a bigger news story.

  • TerryDo

Hahahahaaaa! That is really funny! The clown (Matthews) wants to know if this is going to be a carnival. Didn’t he get the memo yet it said, send in the clown…..

But naturally, living in your self cloistered wholly out of touch concrete canyon world, people like you haven’t been able to notice that very important fact. Yet.

But you will. In fact, just as soon as all your fat federal subsidies that allow you people to spend more than $17,000 per kid, in your increasingly irrelevant and wasteful schools, and so many similar things, all come crashing to an end.

After a disastrous four years alternating between a wake and a funeral, people will be quite happy to see a carnival in 2012. GTFO, Obamo.

  • Barack Must Go

I sure hope ” The Donald ” runs because he will call Obama out on every single discrepancy and blatent lie, starting with proof of his childhood, including whether his dad left when he was two, or him and mom walked out when Barry was seven, through the graft and corruption surrounding ObamaCare, right up to his present day addiction as a habitual liar.

The MSM will not only not be able to intimidate Trump by playing the race card game, they will only piss him off more, hopefully enough that he hires a team of ex Israeli Masaud to investigate Barack’s made up life, exposing him as the fraud he really is.

Another plus will be him supplying cover for all the other hopefuls, or just ordinary Americans that also want the truth out of their president.

  • Robert Stephenson Hearts Mark Schultz

I’m not a big fan Of Trump but one thing is for sure he isn’t intimidated by anyone, especially not Barrack!

  • Robert Stephenson Hearts Mark Schultz

Having said that I hope Trump really ramps it up!

  • ChrisNH

Those pitchforks that Obamo thought ‘His Peeps’ were holding? Not anymore!

Obamo isn’t man enough to stand up to the bludgeoning he’ll be taking. Mrs. Vacation will convince her female hubby that ‘enough is enough.’

  • BatBoy

    The GOP loves Tingles.

They just watch who he tries to destroy…then convinces that person to run for office.

That way they save money on Political Consultants.

Oh The left… they tell you exactly what they are going to do.

What? Did “the Donald” run out of land in Manhattan on which to build monuments to his ego? He would make a terrible president. He is not a team player, consensus builder, and would run out of people on his staff to say “You’re Fired!” to after the first few months. He would also turn our White House into a replica of the tacky Mira Lago in FLA.

  • potvin

Of course it’s a carnival, but the dog-faced boy won’t be there, he’s already in the White House.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bob-Hubble/100001340708758 caconservative

Obimb’s unsuitability for governing is bringing out people that wouldn’t ordinarily run. Why? Probably because they know he’s ripe for the picking. This clown has made so many mistakes in first two year it’s hard to keep track. Even the Bush hater’s have shut up!
