Former Baltimore Cop: If O’Malley Comes Back, ‘You May See a Riot’
Former Baltimore Police Officer Neill Franklin aired a dire warning on MSNBC: if former Mayor and now potential 2016 Democratic candidate Martin O’Malley returns to the city, things could get worse.
Franklin identified O’Malley’s zero-tolerance policies as having heightened tension between cops and the Baltimore community by increasing aggressive and baseless arrests — the type, he added, like befell Freddie Gray.
“I don’t want to say this, but I’m gonna say it anyway,” Franklin said. “If he’s coming back to town, you may see a riot.”
“Well, we don’t want to stir anything up,” host Andrea Mitchell responded, adding that O’Malley had in fact been in the city the last two days.
“We don’t,” Franklin said. “But I would encourage him not to come back to Baltimore.”
