Fox Invites Back Game Show Couple Who Lost $800,000 Despite Having The Correct Answer

Talk about your tough game shows: they got the $800,000 question right, but lost anyway. Now the couple’s getting a do-over.

Gabe Okoye and Brittany Mayti were contestants on Fox’s new game show Million Dollar Money Drop (apparently money actually does drop) and somehow they lost $800,000 even though they had the right answer to the question, which came first–the Post-It Note or the Sony Walkman.

They said Post-It Notes, which was correct, and the money came crashing down onto the stage (which apparently on this show is bad).

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox producers–who initially insisted there had been no mistake–say, essentially, “it’s complicated” and they’ll have the couple back on (though they have no guarantee of getting to 80-grand again):

“As a result of new information we have received from 3M, we feel it is only fair to give our contestants, Gabe and Brittany, another shot to play Million Dollar Money Drop’ even though this question was not the deciding question in their game,” his statement read. “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the viewers who brought this to our attention, and we’re thrilled to give Gabe and Brittany the opportunity to return to play the game.”

The couple tells The New York Times they’re not sure they will take the offer, considering the stress of doing the show–and possibly losing again.

Fox has a very good track record at making a lot of mistakes!!

If Fox had any class at all, they’d write these folks a check for $800,000. Hmm, I just used the words, “class” and
    “Fox” in the same sentence.

The producers doubtless have some air-tight ‘not responsible in case of error’ clause going for them, but ethically they are bound to pauy up the $800,000. They’re welshing ion a bet and I’m surprised the public isn’t burying them in e-mails and phone calls, especially sinxce the couple legitimately lost their remaining money when they gave an actual wrong answer. So the prodcers’ game is ‘heads I win, taikls you lose.’

Um, Mark Joyella? I believe the $800,000 they were cheated out of is more than the “80-grand” they have no guarantee of making it back to you cite later in the article. It would be “8-hundred-grand.”

If I were Kevin Pollack, BTW, I’d walk from this nightmare after a mistake like this. He’s too good a comedian and actor to have to put up with this kind of crap.
