Jay Leno Rips NBC Executives By Calling Them ‘Snakes’ During Tonight Show Monologue

Despite reports that NBC entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt is upset with all the NBC-related jokes, Tonight Show host Jay Leno continued his barrage last night, taking a shot at his bosses by calling them “snakes.”

After telling a St. Patrick’s Day-related joke about Carnival cruise ships and green water, Leno launched into the NBC joke:

“You know the whole legend of St. Patrick, right? St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland — and then they came to the United States and became NBC executives. It’s a fascinating story.”

The crowd let out audible gasps amidst the usual applause and chuckles.

It’s not unusual for late-night hosts to take pot shots at their own networks — it’s almost become tradition for Leno, David Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel. But this most recent zinger comes at a tense time, shortly after a New York Times report indicated that Greenblatt sent a not-so-happy email to Leno in February after the late-night host mocked NBC’s fifth-place finish during sweeps month.
