Rep. Jeff Flake Defends Mitt Romney’s Record To Tom Brokaw, Joe Scarborough

Video

Arizona Rep. Jeff Flake — a Mitt Romney supporter — visited the Morning Joe set Monday to talk about his candidate of choice. “Does that mean you’re severely conservative?,” host Joe Scarborough joked, poking fun at Romney’s decision to characterize himself as having been a “severely conservative” governor in Massachusetts.

“It’s very curious, you supporting Mitt Romney,” Scarborough continued, “because Mitt is known by some as a big-government Republican. You, of course, one of the true believers as far as whether a Republican’s president or a Democrat’s president, you always held to your beliefs of small government. Why are you supporting Romney?”

“Well,” Flake said, “when you look at his record as Governor of Massachusetts, it’s a conservative record. Say what you want about his statements here or there or a campaign, you actually look where he governed. That’s the best gauge I think you can have.”

When asked whether he’s “bothered” by “RomneyCare,” Flake said that it’s a concern and that he certainly doesn’t care for ObamaCare either, but “he’s right when he says this is a state issue.” Guest panelist Tom Brokaw, meanwhile, felt that Romney rival Rick Santorum had done well to pin the former Massachusetts Governor down on the issue of mandated health care. “Isn’t that going to be an issue for the Governor going forward?” he asked, “Because that one he couldn’t wiggle out of.”

But Flake wasn’t too concerned about its impact on Romney. “I think it’s been considered… And done,” he replied.

This Flake might as well support Obama for his conservative record.

Imagine my surprise – Flake puts on the kneepads for HIS FELLOW MORMON !

“Flake was born in Snowflake, Arizona, the son of Nerita (née Hock) and Dean Maeser Flake.[2] His birth town was named in part for his great-great-grandfather, Mormon pioneer William J. Flake.[3] Flake was educated at Brigham Young University and was a Mormon missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to South Africa in the early 1980s. He worked in the public affairs sector after college and served as Executive Director of the Foundation for Democracy in Namibia and Executive Director of the Goldwater Institute before entering the House of Representatives.”

Wasn’t Flake one of the GOP representatives who pledged to serve only two or three terms and then changed his mind and ran again? I can understand why he finds a fellow flip-flopper admirable.

The “flip-flopper” argument really isn’t going to work this go-’round.

Not with Obama on the other podium, anyway.

Unless you’re one of “those” left-wingers, who doesn’t mind a little flip-flopping themselves.

  • JustAsking2012

Yeah, all those Mormons supporting each other.

    Just like Harry Reid.

Oh wait… nevermind. I guess you’re just another religious bigot.

My friend just met a chocolate man on Blackwhite’meet.COMit’s where for men and women looking for interracial’ship for a fabulous lifestyle
It’s a nice place for black white sing’les, to interact with each other…no bounds or extremes in front of true love.

  • The Real Royal Emperor

It will work just fine, but thanks for your concern. Willard doesn’t just make minor policy corrections. He compltely switches sides.

  • http://www.occupywallst.org/ (CAR)

It figures that the one person standing fast and ready to defend Mitt Romney has the name ‘Flake’.

    Fitting I think.

  • JustAsking2012

Well, I guess it will work for those who WANT it to work… you know, committed Democrats and Liberals who don’t mind being a little hypocritical now and then (ie: you).

But for folks who see Gitmo still open, remember that there are lobbyists in the White House, still hear the screams from the left about the Patriot Act but know it’s still “spying” on them with the blessing of Pres. Obama, and see that Super PACs will be funding Obama not because he likes them but because he “has” to… well, they’ll realize something else.

Obama “switches sides” just as much as he needs to. It’s only hyper-partisans and liars (again, ie: you) who won’t acknowledge the obvious.

  • JustAsking2012

Oooh! Alex removed some comments from religious bigots (ie: anti-Mormon bigotry, masquerading as analysis).

I like, I like! WTG Alex!

  • JustAsking2012

Wow. With a wit like that, you could write Bazooka Joe comics.

    *Yawn*

  • JustAsking2012

I think you’re (unwittingly) onto something.

If Romney is “so” Liberal, why aren’t the Democrats and Liberals going to vote for him? After all, we’ve heard about how “Conservative” Obama has been, so why not switch sides like ya’ll say Romney has done.

Apparently, Romney’s not that Liberal, and Obama isn’t that Conservative, are they?

The Flake must have received his program to keep abreast of which stance Slick is taking this week.

  • lewis miller

The Flake endorsement of Romney makes no sense until you realize that Flake, like Romney, is a mormon.

  • Anonymous

Blah blah blah. This guy’s a douche. Romney didn’t balance a thing when he was governor of Massachusetts.

Underfunded stupid transportation projects like the Big Dig – using second rate, cut to the nuts, Chinese products, that have now lead to a freaking DISASTER and over $12,000,000,000 – thats 12 billion, OVER budget.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Dig_ceiling_collapse

Total waste of money, time, resources, labor, and is a blow to Romney’s competency and credibility.

People changed their registration to Democrat just to get this guy out of office. It was really bad.

That’s one of many many things he should have not done. So no – he’s not got a great record

  • Anonymous

Romney’s campaign is doing so bad that:
After getting beat badly by Santorum he wanted to know if he was covered by Obama care
He is moving the part in his hair even further to the right
He is starting to think about talking to poor people
But he is not quitting and you can take that all the way to the Swiss Bank

    and moron

I don’t think either Obama or Romney are extremists. Both are centrists. Problem is that Obama has been referred to as a far left loon for so long that when they hear Romney advocating Obama policies it makes them think he’s a liberal as well. They yearn for someone like Rush Limbaugh but no such person would ever run for president.

coulter, trump, AMNESTY-JOHN mccain, scott brown, lisa murCOWski, AMNESTY-JOHN mini-me jeff flake, christy, most of the BIG GOVERNMENT Ruling-Class Establishment Repub hacks in congress….all that manure surrounding romney(care) does help hide his RINO stink.
…but then he speaks and everyone hears what a RINO general election loser-to-be he certainly is. He’ll go down in flames just like all those other establishment-backed RINO LOSERS: mccain, dole, george h.w. bush, ford….

  • Anonymous

Wow, with wit like “yawn” you couldn’t even write for Bazooka Joe comics.

  • Anonymous

It’s already working & there’s plenty more footage out there of Romney not only siding with Obama policies, but aggressively defending it.

  • Anonymous

Obama is the president. We already know what he’s like as president. Romney is trying to prove that he’s better. How is he going to prove he’s better than Obama when his record as governor suggests he would’ve done things as Obama did? By nominating Romney, Republicans concede to Obama on foreign policy, healthcare mandates, religious values, and even the economy.

Romney’s gaffe’s have become things of legend, here is a new ad by AmericanLP airing in Michigan this week.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M6J_pvxxtY&context=C3f5c600ADOEgsToPDskIOEJXeG-if1sYJQdKTxfJ7

  • http://www.occupywallst.org/ (CAR)

*Yawn* Exactly how Republicans feel about Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich

  • JustAsking2012

    Romney advocates Obama’s policies?

    When does that happen?

  • JustAsking2012

Well, his record as Governor DOESN’T suggest that. People who wish to discredit him, or attack him INFER that.

As for Romney’s policies, I’m not sure they line up like you suggest. If so, why will Liberals vote for Obama, and not Romney?

  • JustAsking2012

    Liiiiike?

  • JustAsking2012

I think I’d rather vote for a *Yawn* candidate, than vote for a candidate simply because of their race.

  • JustAsking2012

    Just like Harry Reid.

    And you’re a religious bigot.

  • JustAsking2012

You realize that the Big Dig began well before Romney, right… and your argument againts Romney, in terms of the Big Dig, is nothing but partisan nonsense.

Did you read the link you posted? If you would have, you’d see that your post doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

  • Anonymous

I read it. My sister lives in Massachusetts and I’ve been up there several times.

This is partisan nothin’. I’m a Republican and Romney’s a damn Democrat or just as bad as one.

He’s been on both sides of all the wrong issues and been on the wrong side of practically everything.

Name a subject. Name a position. Name a political issue. Romney has been on both sides from election year to election year. That ain’t partisan – it’s looking up the f@ckin’ history and reading.

Him, Gingrich & Santorum are all 3 about as philosophically disciplined as cell block D. Bunch of freakin’ pansy liberals. Go join Obama in his race to destroy the economy. A barrel full of big government money junkies. All 4 of them.

And yes – the Big Dig was Romney’s deal. He was all about it. Speech after speech was about what it would do for the local economy, jobs, and to help the people. It was a 3 billion dollar project that turned into a $15 billion dollar repair, lawsuit, reconstruction, and $12 billion in additional unexpected liabilities. That’s an additional sudden tax of $2,300 per person plus bond interest. Horrible!

You can keep him. He can stay in Massachusetts. Santorum can stay in Pennsylvania or Virginia where ever he bought his multi-million dollar mansion with lobbyist money. And Newt, you can move that fat bastard right into your house. And Callista will be like Gollum going through your wife’s jewelry box.

    Mitt vs Mitt?

  • Anonymous

Why would they vote for an Obamawannabe when they could just have Obama?

  • Anonymous

How about when people put mandated healthcare on trial?

  • http://www.occupywallst.org/ (CAR)

Nice Race Card? I’m voting for Obama because he’s a good democrat. All minorities prodominately vote democratic in every recent election by huge percentages.

I guess that makes Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry black then?
