Greta Van Susteren Regrets Asking Debate Question Darline Graham Flubbed in Viral Moment

Newsmax’s Greta Van Susteren, also the co-moderator of last night’s South Carolina primary runoff debate between Sen. Darline Graham (R-SC) and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), revealed on Wednesday that she regrets asking the question that the senator badly flubbed.

On Tuesday, Van Susteren asked Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, “Are Taiwan and the South China Sea national security issues for the United States? If so, why?”

The senator, who received President Donald Trump’s endorsement, first asked for the question to be repeated before responding:

I’m just gonna be honest here. I’m not, on national security– I’m not that informed on national security, so– but I do support the military. My brother was in the Air Force for 33 years, so I will do everything I can to support the military. My dad was in the Army. I’m not a polished politician up here. National security is not my thing, not my area of expertise, but I support the military.

During Wednesday’s edition of her Newsmax show The Record, Van Susteren blamed the media for focusing their coverage of the South Carolina Senate Republican debate on Graham’s answer, scolding, “Really?”

She continued, “The media thinks that this one question is so important to only talk about that and ignore the other 19 questions, which are 40 answers. The ad nauseam repeating and replaying today of one answer by Sen. Darline Graham makes the media look bad. That was certainly not her entire contribution to last night’s debate.”

Van Susteren went on to explain that she used AI to research journalists whom she’s seen reporting on the misstep today, only to allege that they too have made past mistakes in their work.

“Our goal, protected by the Constitution, is to inform the voters, but we don’t do that well if we give one answer all the attention,” she argued.

While the Newsmax host admitted that her question about Taiwan and the South China Sea was “important,” she added, “I wish I hadn’t asked that question.”

Notably, Van Susteren has also spoken out on X on Wednesday. One of her posts read, “There were 19 other questions, for a total of 40 answers from two candidates, and this is the only question reported about…that is 2.5% of the debate…I would not call this comprehensive reporting….”
