Rep. Bachmann’s First Debate Answer: ‘I Have Filed Papers To Run For President’

video

What a difference a few months make: unlike the first debate of the 2012 elections, this one only took a good five minutes to become newsworthy, as exploratory unofficial candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann announced she had finished filing papers today to become an official candidate.

After a very brief rapidfire introduction, moderator John King began the debate with questions on the economy– by far the most important topic for voters according to most polls. Before answering her question, however, the Congresswoman had a secret to tell the New Hampshire audience: “I filed today my paperwork to seek the office of the presidency of the United States and I’ll very soon be making my formal announcement.” And with that, things suddenly got way more interesting for fellow Minnesotan Tim Pawlenty.

The announcement via CNN below:

Bachmann and Romney won the debate , hands down .

  • THE REAL ROYAL KING

If I understand what they said, it was: If we lower taxes on the wealthy, everything will be right in America.

Didn’t seem to be much more.

BTW: The Newt was far and away the best debater out of the lot, in a technical, debate rules sense. Backhand was #2.

T-Paw was the next to the worst, and Kane was the worst, hand down. T-Paw was a tremendous disappointment. I want to like him. Substance baffles and eludes him.

Eddie Haskell gave me the creeps, as usual.

Did Bachmann say she wanted to change the Constitution but she wouldn’t force the States abide by it?

I’m still scratching my head over that. I think that is exactly what she said. I guess she must be thinking the ratification of the 14 Amendment is suspect. Perhaps, ACORN or the NBPP.

Bachmann and Palin share fundamental character flaws — both have a propensity toward making snide, petty comments about those with whom they disagree, neither does her homework before making public comments regarding important social and historical events, and neither is mature enough to accept responsibility for her own mistakes, failures, and shortcomings.

Remember, Michele Bachmann is the self-anointed Queen of White Tea (a variety that is easily over-brewed, becoming very bitter).

Bachmann has a penchant for taking unsubstantiated, isolated anecdotal accounts (as well as her own ignorance) and using them as the basis for formulating public policy. Who needs verifiable evidence, unbiased data, and fact-checking when you can rely upon highly speculative supposition and inflammatory innuendo instead?

Bachmann’s m.o. is to promote irrational fear — delusional nonsense about taking up arms against census takers, the government sending people to internment camps, progressives in Congress having unAmerican motives, repealing the U.S. Senate, encouraging her constituents to be armed and dangerous, etc. She seems to regard Joseph McCarthy as a role model.

For someone who claims to be so knowledgable about the U.S. Constitution and indignantly points her finger at the “tyrannical conduct” of the Obama Administration, Bachmann sure is fond of making comments suggesting that what the nation really needs is a good old fashioned coup.

In other words, she is Raygun’s true successor.

  • LOGICandREASON

John King did so poorly, I hope this is his last moderation of a Presidential debate.

Your t.v. must have had a different set of people on. Mine showed Bachmann very bright and articulate and came out as a star. Maybe if you got satellite?

Best part of the debate was when she was asked by a guy about the gay marriage law in NH. She said as Presidnet she wouldn’t go into indiviual states and change their laws. She then said said she supported a constitutional ammendment that would define marriage as being between a man and a woman. Which would, of course, go in and change the law in NH.

  • http://justplaythegame.us JustPlayTheGame

Well, she spoke well and is more of a hottie in my eyes than palin..

  • ModerateMan

She’s a fake. A “constitutional” Tea Party candidate who voted for the Patriot Act.

I didn’t like the format at all! Because of such formats, our campaigns have become too sound bite oriented. While it is good to be succinct in one’s answers, some questions simply cannot be answered in 30 seconds. The major fault with sound bites is that it allows anyone with an opposing view to take the abbreviated remarks totally out of context.

My preference would be to extend the debate to three hours, limit the number of questions (especially questions from people who don’t know how to ask a question that will garner a succinct answer) and to allow each candidate a reasonable amount of time to provide concise answers. The moderator would be allowed to remind the candidate to not stray from the topic.

All candidates showed strengths and weaknesses–some of those were noted in previous posts–but none hit more home runs than Cain and Paul. The problem is, most Americans are too reliant on our nanny government to embrace their message.

It was good to finally hear some of the candidates acknowledge that overregulation has played a major role in running our manufacturing and heavy industries offshore–this message needs to be amplified. Perhaps a “useful” sound bite would be to point out how long it has been since one could buy a TV that was made in the USA.

Social issues are most often lightning rods that moderators use to give people reasons to NOT vote for one candidate or another and given the dire straits of our economy, it would probably better serve our interests to lay off the social issues and concentrate on the economic issues.

When is mediaite going to do a piece on “Operation Fast & Furious?” You know, the one where our ATF put thousands of guns in the hands of the Mexican drug cartels–some of which are known to have been used to murder Americans–which was actually an attempt to attack our 2nd Amendment rights. I guess mediaite doesn’t want to give any bad press to the DOJ, huh?

Harold Camping may have been wrong about Armageddon, but the end of America as we know
    is coming.

Believe your “Team America F@#* Yeah” as much as you want,

But India and China laugh in our faces and we deserve it. This will not end well.

The American Empire is on life support. The comments by many at Mediaite are example #1.

Look, we might have “stupid” in the Whitrehouse and congress, but I doubt we are laughed at. India and china still have to go thru the Democracy thing… believe me..they have their hands full.

India is still in our 50-60′s stage.. they are beating gatherings of more than 5.. Hmm… and they will laugh at us?

Make no mistake..Bachmann is a babe..but a president she will never be… It’s our country and we can poke fun at everyone.. but outsiders can’t..;)

  • Sanders Youth

I hate to say it but Bachmann was very impressive, I think she could be the big surprise and get the nomination. She is everything Sarah Palin isn’t although they are usually unfairly compared to each other. Bachmann isn’t afraid of the “lamestream media”, she goes on hostile programs like Chris Matthews and she didn’t equivocate on one question the entire night, except for the Elvis vs. Johnny Cash question which is a pretty hard question to answer IMO.

Watch this woman, she could get the nomination.

Very true and the sick and unamerican thing is that many of them want our country to fail, just to score cheap political points.

I guess they don’t realize that if the country fails, then no more country, your partisan politics will be meaningless.

  • Bill Huggins

She announced she’s running for president, is taking place in a presidential debate; but will make a “formal announcement” later?

WHY? wasn’t that an announcement last night? How many times does she have to announce?

  • Bill Huggins

Amazing how many debaters WERE NOT WEARING FLAG PINS LAST NIGHT

  • Bill Huggins

I think the bigger Bachman announcement last night was that she HAS 30 KIDS?!?!??

I think Michele was smart enough to go on Matthews sort of like batting practice, to rehearse handling rough BS questions while nobody was watching. Serves her well now that she’s actually got a hit in the first inning.

  • Just4thefax

Fact: I liked it sense it took away somebody’s bone for later in the night. She was straight speaker but all candidates on that stage was weak in space exploration for USA’s future.

  • Colorado_Conservative

Will she be weak and bow to foreign leaders?
Does she know how many States there are?
