Sarah Palin’s Fox News Special Garners Unspectacular Ratings

Cable news ratings, April 1, 2010: Check out the highlights, and see the full ratings below:

Sarah Palin‘s much-hyped LL Cool J-less Fox News special last night didn’t bring in the huge ratings some (ok, we) predicted. Greta Van Susteren‘s On The Record which normally airs at 10pmET beat the program the previous three nights in the A25-54 demographic and two out of three nights in total viewers. The show also lost viewers from the first quarter hour to the final quarter hour by double digits. It did do 28% better in total viewers than the last FNC original special (November 2009).

John King, USA was way down Thursday night, with just 81,000 viewers in the demo and 482,000 total viewers. That was the lowest total viewers rating from 6pmET-MidnightET.

Check out all the ratings below, and leave your own thoughts in the comments:

I watched some of the show and it was pretty boring….that being said her unspectacular ratings still crush anyting else on other cable news outlets.

  • Grammie

I watched as I said I would and on a grading scale of 94-100 is an A and so on I would give it a C.

I thought the overall production values were rather poor, Palin’s voice was much better modulated in her voice overs and she needs, for a career in TV, some voice lessons and instruction on keeping her body still.

For a novice to the venue she didn’t bomb but she needs to develop her talent.

  • same2u

Boredom is not an issue for the majority of the 2 million that watched Palin, since there is nothing else on television worth watching.

  • perceptorii

It says something about how thoroughly FNC is beating its competition if Palin beats all three of her competitors COMBINED in total viewers and it’s considered a disappointment.

  • Caryson

The Palin ratings maybe so so but she still won the time period.

More importantly, look at “Tingle’s” ratings on MSNBC.

At 5P Chris Matthews only had 68 thousand A25-54 at 5PM and only 128 at 7PM. Why do they even keep this loser on the air? He is as entertaining and enlightening as a root canal. The funny thing is that Red Eye on FNC which runs at 3AM EST generates more audience.

Pretty soon the management at Comcast will decide that making money is more important than keeping a loser like “Tingles” on the air to just read the DNC and WH talking points and his left wing ideology.

I do not think it was “unspectacular” at all. You see even Oreilly at 8pm a much better time slot was below 3 million which is very unusual for him. He is usually much higher. So, Fox Ratings across the board were down most likely due to the Easter holiday/people travelling etc. She destroyed the competition combined and beat them even when they were in better time slots.

I bet had it not been the day before Good Friday ratings would have been better across the board.

  • Olby Sucks

Looks like my prediction was a little off. I predicted she would triple olbermann’s ratings. She did better! ;)

  • TylerDurdin

Yeah, right Mediaite. Ya forgot to point out that her show, taped, got more viewers than KO and RM’s live shows combined.

    Keep your lies up Abrams.

  • puck30

    Unspectacular?

    Perhaps.

But could you folks show where she was beaten by anyone at CNN? MSNBC? HLN? So, if her ratings were Unspectacular, what do we call the rest of the field?

    Pathetic?

    Perhaps.

  • TBDave

Actually, it looks like everyone, across all networks, had a bad night. O’Reilly, Olbermann, Maddow, Grace and Behar all had really low numbers.

The show was great and it will air again on Sunday at 9pm eastern.
Thursday she had more viewers than HLN, MSNBC and CNN COMBINED.
Her first shot she beat up some of her most avid and rancid critics….Anderson Cooper just hates her .I saw Anderson at an Oscar party dancing with his Asian boyfriend ( a little disturbing to see). so I think his hate is against her religion which he thinks condemns homosexuals, even though it doesn’t

RATINGS FOR ALL THE CABLE NEWS CHANNELS ON THURSDAY NIGHT, except for CNN, WERE DOWN. In fact, RATINGS WERE DOWN ALL THIS WEEK. I’m not sure why though. IT COULD BE BECAUSE OF THE HOLY WEEK, that would be may guess. I look at the ratings for cable news every single day. O’Reilly normally has 3.6M total viewers a night at 8PM, so him just having 2.9M is highly unusual. Beck normally has 2.7M, but only got 2M. Olbermann has recently been averaging 1.4M, but only got 0.9M. So SARAH PALIN’S NUMBERS WERE DOWN BUT SO WERE EVERYBODY ELSE’S. So unfortunately her numbers for Thursday night cannot be relied on as a true representation of her show’s viewership.

  • MooseOfReason

I think a different format would have benefited the ratings spectacularly — especially if it were more Palin-heavy, and not just narration.

Maybe a ‘Huckabee”-type show, complete with a monologue and a live studio audience. She would have brought the house down.

    Oh well.

  • Nachi

Tanya Harding. Without the looks or dignity.

  • thetroll01

Maybe all this means is that nobody gives a rat’s a$$ about LL Cool J, no matter who is doing a “special on it!!!!!
