SNL Has A Message From The Ghost Of Muammar Gaddafi
They had to do it one last time. The cold open for tonight’s episode was Fred Armisen’s Ghost of Muammar Gaddafi offering some advice from beyond the grave. “Don’t dare people to kill you,” he cautioned. Also, “never refer to your people as rats.” He also noted that it’s nearly impossible to reason with a mob, especially when everyone in it is determined to kill you.
“As you might have guessed, I’m in hell now, which as you can see looks pretty much like Libya,” he told the camera. He described hell as sort of a club for terrible people — Saddam Hussein and the band from the FreeCreditReport.com commercials among them. Gaddafi also thanked a few of his biggest supporters, which was reminiscent of Armisen’s farewell speech as Osama bin Laden in a cold open from a few months ago. Although the sketch was a bit derivative (though really, how were they supposed to know that two of America’s biggest enemies abroad would die in the same year), it was overall pretty clever and incisive. How come we had to wait for Gaddafi to die for him to get funny?
