SNL Presents Mitt Romney ‘Raw And Unleashed’

video

As much as the media might want to pretend it isn’t true, Mitt Romney will probably be the inevitable winner of the Republican nomination for president. Unfortunately, however, his staid demeanor is not nearly as exciting as Herman Cain’s sexual harassment scandal or Rick Perry’s inability to remember government agencies. That’s where the “Committee To Elect Mitt Romney” comes in. By showing the “raw and unleashed” side of Mitt Romney, he will hopefully get a little more attention from the press and coast the rest of the way to the nomination.

Jason Sudeikis’s Romney was played with exactly the right amount of smarmy bravado. Bits like trying desperately to make it seem like his female former employee (played by Kristin Wiig) had been sexually harassed by him, and answering fan mail from his wife and son were mildly amusing, but the fact is there have just been too many sketches about the Republican nominees on the show lately, and the well is running a little dry. This cold open in particular was about as boring as Mitt Romney is. So…basically a victory for the writers!

Remember when SNL was actually funny and relevant to pop culture? Now it’s just leftist asshats who hate Republicans.

Still waiting for Mediaite to post the Jon Stewart’s take on the class struggles within OWS

Now, now…they can’t make fun of something they’re promoting!
Noticed the pained look on Jon’s face the whole time? Man he hated every minute of having to do that bit.

Maybe SNL can do a skit on Chris Matthews losing his Religion….

He looked like he was just pepper-sprayed !1!

I’m a Romney fan and while not hilarious, I laughed

That actually might work with independents; it’s only you wingers who prefer the ‘excitement of your candidates saying nutty things.

  • Anonymous

You are looking at the Republican nominee.  They may like all the craziness in the clown car, but in the end they pull the lever for old reliable.

  • Anonymous

SNL is merely the factory for future cancelled NBC programming.

  • us995

like change we can believe in and open and transparent

Remember when Republicans were sometimes considered moderate w/o fearing the label of RINO? Don’t worry, SNL is still funny and relevant. They continue to satirize news & politics just as they always have.

I think your issue has to do more with the vast shift in right-wing ideology rather than the “leftist asshats who hate Republicans” on SNL.

  • Anonymous

If a) you’re staying home to watch SNL or b) you have it on your dvr, you might need to re-think your social schedule.

Just saying. The SNL of recent and now is not funny. The last time it was funny was when Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri were the cheerleaders.

I think your issue has more to do with not knowing what’s funny.

  • Anonymous

    Chris Matthews has a religion?

None of you are bright, nor funny.

If I need to justify the merits of a successful, multi-decade long, comedy sketch show.. then you’re kiiiiind of a hypocrite? Seriously. Here’s why – (Correct me if Im wrong)

If my memory is accurate, I’m fairly confident that you are an outspoken supporter of Bill O’Reilly as evidenced by constantly citing his #1 ranking via Mediaite comments. Aaaannnd now? SNL mocks Republicans and you ignore their success? O’Reilly’s success is relevant but a ‘liberal’ comedy show like SNL isn’t? Oh, I forgot. Republicans are known for being the authority on comedy. HA!

Get real. Republicans have moved further right. That’s the issue. SNL hasn’t gotten ‘more liberal’. If you seriously think that then there’s really no hope for you. :(

  • us995

yes it’s called hate america unless crony capitist like ge can steal tax payer dollers and give them to democrats

  • http://www.facebook.com/stephenmarkmonteith Stephen Mark Monteith

“Not funny”?  It may not be the best skit they’ve ever done, but it still worked.  It was better than a lot of the George W. Bush skits (talk about predictable).

  • us995

it has been pretty crappy for the last few years?

  • us995

    sorry

  • Anonymous

I never said that SNL was more liberal. I’m young therefore I don’t know it’s original days. I can only comment that now, it’s not funny at all.

Also, I don’t comment on O’Reilly’s ratings. At least, not in the context in which you presume.

There are Youtube clips with hundreds of thousands of hits over randomness. Does that make them quality? No.

  • us995

i never said snl was more liberal i think im young i just said it sucks

  • ASAP

Those are only nutty things to your average right winger.

  • ASAP

I don’t know what you expected to happen.  OWS represents our society.  We are segregated because of class, not political ideology.  Even though OWS are mostly liberal, some have money, some don’t.  If you were sleeping in a park, wouldn’t you camp around people you trust.

  • ASAP

The skit was devastating.  Romney is a tool and everybody knows it.

  • http://twitter.com/Socoral Tom Green

When the material was so predictable what could you possible expect?

  • ASAP

If you watched two seconds of his show you would know he is a Cathlic.

  • us995

your right hope and change was nutty

This sketch was pretty lame, but not cause it hurt your widdle republican feelings.

You guys just absolutely loathe the idea of ANYONE making fun of Republicans, don’t you? It’s not even about this sense of ‘balance’, where equal fun is made fun of Democrats. What you guys want it 100% mocking to anyone on the left while never, EVER satirizing anyone on the right.

I’m a proud America hating Demo(n)crat, yet I don’t mind at all when SNL or Letterman or the like make fun of my team. Whereas I can imagine people like you rubbing your shotguns and gritting your teeth if ANYONE ever said Bush Jr. was anything other than the best president since Ronald Reagan/George Washington.

It has always been produced by leftist asshats,  Just now you have lost your sense of humor due to stress caused by exposure to the walking snoozefests that are the 2012 GOP Presidential hopeless….er…hopefuls.

  • Ben Dover

So, you have been staying home to watch it, have you?  Oops* you weren’t going out anyway, were you?

*Thanks and a tip o’ the hat to Rick Perry for use of his trademark phrase.

  • shonangreg

I wish SNL would jump on Republicans more. They would improve their ratings if they did . . . If you Republicans don’t want to be made fun of by every media around the world short of your own right wing outlets, then stop fielding idiots as your candidates. It’s simple, really.

  • Anonymous

Funny: “Committee To Elect Mitt Romney.”

Funnier: NBC is the “Committee to Re-Elect OBAMO.”

Oh, how anguished the leftist media will be next November when they realize that they exhausted themselves for nothing.

  • Anonymous

Talking ’bout your own problem, I see.

  • Sean68

SNL should just start referring to him as President Danger.

  • Anonymous

I thought it was funny.  What made this funnier is that it sounded like a great ad campaign for Romney.  Who do you want in the White House?  The guy who bumbles along trying to figure things out.  The guy who has to continually watch his history in case something bad pops out.  Or the guy with a clean past, a serious person who has prepared for the job.  The one completely concentrating on the task at hand.  I’ll take the serious candidate over the wannabe every day.

  • Anonymous

Thanks for watching the Republican candidates for me. I sure haven’t been paying attention to them.

Um, who else would they be making fun of?  The Republicans are the only ones debating (ie making fools of themselves) atm.  I remember them making fun of the Obama/Clinton debacle back in 2008.  Republicans are just so touchy.
