WWE’s Russian Villains Make MH17 Reference: ‘You Blame Russia?’

 

This may be the definition of “too soon.”

WWE’s two antagonistic Russians, the wrestler Rusev and the impresario Lana, referenced the downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 during a performance last night. Yes, Rusev and Lana are supposed to be villains in that inimitable pro-wrestling way, but this was a bit on the nose:

The reference has some in the wrestling world speculating that the WWE may either tank the characters or change their gimmick, much in the same way the Muhammad Hassan character exited stage right after the 2005 London bombings.

Personally, I hope not. This stuff is too good to just go away:
