Nebraska police have arrested a suspect in connection with the sexual assault of former U.S. Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ).

Twenty-five-year-old Dominic Henton was charged with one count of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse for the incident that happened Wednesday.

In an Instagram post, McSally wrote, “I was just sexually assaulted while out running. I am safe. I am ok. It could have been much worse. I have a lot to process. For anyone else who has been assaulted, speak up. Find your power. Process it emotionally, spiritually, neurologically. I am safe.”

McSally said she was running along the Missouri River in Council Bluffs, Iowa, when a man “came up behind me and he engulfed me in a bear hug. He molested and fondled me until I fought him off.” McSally said she then chased the man and called 911 as he ran off.

The Council Bluffs Police Department released still photos of surveillance video they said showed Henton following McSally over a bridge and then onto the running trail.

“Senator McSally can be seen walking in front of Henton in the photos,” according to the department.

Fox News reported that McSally had previously shared her story of being a rape survivor.

McSally is a former US military pilot who served in the Senate from 2015 to 2019. She lost a special election to Democrat and former astronaut Mark Kelly, who was chosen to serve the remainder of the late Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) term.
