L’Chayim: Orthodox Rabbi Blesses Weed So It’s Nice and Kosher For Passover
Haredi rabbi Chaim Kanievsky of Bnei Brak made a ruling that is sure to delight those waking and baking their unleavened bread this passover season: Weed is kosher!
As the holiday stretches on for eight days, Kanievsky has said that observant Jews are welcome to smoke or eat the herb. After being presented with some marijuana plants, he concluded that they had a “healing smell.” I mean okay, sure, Rabbi Kanievsky.
There is a caveat, of course. From Haaretz:
Rabbi Kanievsky explained that the plant, which is normally considered kitniyot, or a form of legume not permitted on Passover, is perfectly legal under Jewish law when used for medical purposes.
It might only be permissible for medical reasons, but if anyone is qualified to make the call, it’s Kanievsky, who has been called the “leading halachic authority” by the Times of Israel.
Anyway, here is a video of the toke-friendly talmudist taking a big whiff:
First it was the hosts of the Five, now it’s a leading rabbi! When will the reefer madness end?
