Ben Shapiro Defends Embattled Trump Officials Amid Epstein Fallout: ‘I Don’t Have Any Reason to Believe Those People Are Lying’
The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro defended embattled Trump administration officials — including the FBI’s Kash Patel and Dan Bongino — on Wednesday amid the fallout over their flip-flop on the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Axios reported on Sunday night that the Department of Justice and FBI had concluded that Epstein killed himself, there was no “incriminating ‘client list’” linking others to his criminal sexual enterprise, and that there was no “credible evidence … that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals.”
The news elicited meltdowns from some prominent pro-Trump media personalities, including the tearful Alex Jones, irate Laura Loomer, and Tucker Carlson, who warned that the alleged cover-up is the kind of thing that could spark a “revolution.”
Shapiro, on the other hand, said he had no reason to believe that the administration wasn’t telling the truth.
“Let me say right at the outset, what is the real story about Jeffrey Epstein? I don’t know the answer. You don’t the answer, nobody knows the answer. All I know is the publicly available information from court documents, and from public disclosures, and from various allegations made by various parties,” began Shapiro. “That’s all I know and that’s all anybody knows. Except for members of the DOJ and FBI, who have access to all sorts of information that you and I do not know. And so I will say right at the outset that when you look at the number of people inside DOJ, and FBI who have now come out behind this memo, they have information I do not have. And so you now have a choice.”
He continued:
You can either believe that these people are motivated by a desire to cover something up, that the conspiracy goes even higher than we thought, or you can believe that the people who are in a position of power and a position to know, the people with access to data that I don’t have, you don’t have, no one has, that those people actually are telling the truth based on their legally best information. Alright? That’s your choice. There is no third choice.
Either all of those people are personally involved in the cover-up. They know better and they are lying to you, or they’re telling you the truth. And since I have no reason to believe that Dan Bongino, for example, or Kash Patel at the FBI, or Donald Trump, or JD Vance, or any of the other people in the administration who have spoken about this before and now are saying that Epstein killed himself ,and that there is no Epstein list. I don’t have any reason to believe those people are lying to me, and they have better information than I do. All I can do, rationally speaking, from my own perspective, is say that I believe them.
Now, could evidence emerge that completely contradicts all of that and it turns out they were part of a conspiracy? Sure, that could happen. And when that happens, I will change my opinion.
