Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan has died at the age of 71, the WWE confirmed on Thursday.

Police were called to Hogan’s Florida home at about 10 a.m., where the wrestler was apparently suffering from cardiac arrest, authorities said. Medical personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” the WWE said in a statement posted to X. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”

Despite recent reports that Hogan was suffering health problems, he maintained an active schedule of public appearances — showing up on Fox News and speaking, memorably, at the Republican National Convention last year when Donald Trump was nominated as the party’s presidential candidate.

Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, spent decades as a WWE star after kicking off his career in 1977.

He made his mark on the media industry as well, suing Gawker in 2015 in a case that was funded by Peter Thiel and ended in a $115 million award for Hogan that bankrupted the acerbic blog.

Hogan was survived by his wife Sky Daily, whom he married in 2023. He had two children with ex-wife Linda Hogan, Brooke and Nick.
