CBS’s Gayle King Floored By DSA Candidate’s Claim She Isn’t Familiar With Hasan Piker: ‘You Don’t Know Who He is?’

CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King was taken aback when Florida Senate primary winner Rep. Angie Nixon admitted, “I don’t really know who Mr. [Hasan] Piker is.”

The exchange was part of a seven-minute long interview following Nixon’s surprise win in Florida.

“Would you want him to campaign with you?” King asked.

“I don’t really know who Mr. Piker is. I’ve heard about him, and so—” Nixon answered before King cut back in.

“You don’t know who he is?!” King asked.

“I said I don’t really know who he is personally or anything like that. I am actually focused on Florida and making sure that I’m talking to voters here to uplift their needs and their concerns. So that’s what my focus is going to be over the next 76 days.”

Nixon’s defeat of establishment Democratic candidate former National Security Council aide Alex Vindman came as a surprise especially because the later outraised his opponent significantly. Vindman collected more than $16 million from supporters. Nixon raised less than $1 million.

“We showed the world what organized people can accomplish,” Nixon said Tuesday night. “And we showed the world what people of Florida are all about. Medicare for all. Universal child care. Real, affordable housing. Fully funded public education. And an end to senseless wars.”

Nixon, who has experience as a union organizer, now has the support of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and DSCC Chair Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY).

“Angie Nixon has dedicated her career to fighting for Florida. A lifelong native of Jacksonville and a former union organizer, Angie’s dedication to put working families first runs deep — and now, she’s running to take that fight to the Senate,” Schumer and Gillibrand said in a joint statement. “Ashley Moody’s votes have cost Florida, from her siding with private insurance companies over Floridians to ripping away health care. In November, Florida will have a clear choice at the ballot.”

Piker is a popular left-wing Twitch streamer and is known as HasanAbi on the platform. He has more than 3 million followers.
