Dem Candidate Brags About Impeaching Trump, Trying To ‘Get Elon Musk Drug-Tested’

Candidate for governor Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) bragged during a candidate forum about impeaching President Donald Trump and trying to fire Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and get Elon Musk drug-tested.

Sherrill was an outspoken critic of Trump following the Capitol riot that led to his second impeachment, and is not shying away from bashing Trump as she vies for the Democratic nomination for governor of New Jersey.

The NJ Spotlight News podcast hosted a Democratic candidate forum Monday that included Sherrill, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), and former state Senate President Steve Sweeney.

Sherrill was asked what she’ll do to stand up to Trump while “ensuring New Jersey can cooperate with the federal government when it’s in the state’s interest”:

WNYC MORNING EDITION HOST MICHAEL HILL: Congresswoman Sherrill, when you talk about standing up to Donald Trump, what specifically does that look like and how would you do that while ensuring New Jersey can cooperate with the federal government when it’s in the state’s interest?

REP. MIKIE SHERRILL (D-NJ): Well, I would say in my first term, it looked like leading the caucus and impeaching (LAUGHS) him the first time.

But right now, it involves standing up to his administration, standing up to people like the worst head of the Department of Defense we’ve ever had.

I’ve already done that. I’ve been laying out a path for why we need to have him fired immediately.

But also having, getting Elon Musk drug tested, for example, as I put forth.

But in New Jersey, making sure that we are taking him to court, pushing back against these Medicaid cuts, clawing back federal funding back to New Jersey.

It would look like what you see California doing, for example. So the governor of California has Trump in court right now because he is saying that these tariffs are illegal. They are not an executive branch function.

Utilizing bilateral negotiations as governor, I would be up in Canada saying, “Look, the Jersey Shore is open to you this summer. We welcome you here.”
