Dem Eric Swalwell Flat-Out Asks Hur To Refuse Trump Job If Biden Loses At Bombshell Hearing
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) flat-out asked special counsel Robert Hur to promise he would refuse a Trump administration job should President Joe Biden lose in November.
On Tuesday morning, Republicans led a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of sensitive documents. Just ahead of the hearing, transcripts from President Biden’s Oct. 8 and Oct. 9 interviews with Hur and his team were released.
As the hearing progressed, Republicans attacked Biden in their questioning, while Democrats pushed back and leaned heavily on comparisons to Trump — but also assailed Hur at times.
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) very explicitly accused Hur of attempting to trade his denigrating of Biden for a future favor from former President Donald Trump, which Hur denied.
But Swalwell took a different tack. Rather than ask if Hur’s motivations were political, he challenged him to promise he wouldn’t accept such a favor — and Hur sidestepped the question twice:
ERIC SWALWELL, U.S. HOUSE DEMOCRAT: Since you were appointed, he was impeached for leveraging 350 U.S. — 350 million U.S. taxpayer dollars over Ukraine to get dirt on President Biden. He was then impeached a second time for inciting an insurrection. He was charged for possessing classified documents and obstructing justice.
He was charged for paying for the silence of a porn star. He was charged in Georgia for his role in January 6th. He was charged in the District of Columbia for his role in January 6th. He owes $400 million to the state of New York for defrauding the state through his taxes. And he has been judged a rapist.
You want to be perceived, understandably, as credible. And so, I want to first see if you will pledge to not accept an appointment from Donald Trump if he is elected again as President —
ROBERT HUR, SPECIAL COUNSEL: Congressman, I don’t, I’m not here to testify about what will happen in the future.
SWALWELL: — considering what I just laid out.
HUR: I’m here to I’m here to talk about the report and the work that went into it.
SWALWELL: But you don’t want to be associated with that guy again, do you?
HUR: Congressman, I’m not here to offer any opinions about what may or may not happen in the future. I’m here to talk about the work that went into the report, which I stand by.
Swalwell went on to confront Hur for omitting his reference to President Biden’s “photographic recall” in his interview with Biden from his final report and launched a montage of Trump gaffes to end his questioning period.
