Elon Musk offered a terse reaction on Wednesday to his X CEO, Linda Yaccarino, stepping down following controversies erupting over the social media platform’s AI assistant just a day prior.

Yaccarino announced on Wednesday that she was resigning from her position after two years. The outgoing CEO had only positive things to say about her time with the company, but some speculated it could be tied to X’s Grok AI system praising Hitler and going off the rails the day before.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X,” she wrote in an X post. “When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company. I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”

Yaccarino was made CEO of X after Musk bought it, then known as Twitter, for $44 billion in 2022.

“Thank you for your contributions,” Musk wrote in a reply to Yaccarino’s announcement, doing little to stop the rumor mill about his CEO’s exit.

Yaccarino’s resignation also comes amidst a growing feud between Musk and President Donald Trump. Following his work as a special government employee with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), Musk and Trump launched into a war of words. Musk took issue with Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill and its spending and the raising of the debt ceiling, while Trump threatened to end the billionaire’s government contracts.

Musk recently announced the launch of a third political party following his falling out with the president. Trump insisted this week Musk’s actions will only “help” him and his administration.
