Elon Musk Set to Drop Big Bucks for GOP in Midterms — After Months of Squawking About Third Party

Elon Musk is planning on dropping some major coin to boost Republicans in the upcoming midterms, Axios first reported on Wednesday.

Alex Isenstadt reported this week that Musk is “resuscitating” his America PAC, an organization that raised more than $260 million to get President Donald Trump elected in 2024.

That move made Musk the biggest individual political donor in an election cycle in the country’s history.

It is not known how much money Musk is looking to drop on the midterms, but the number is reportedly “expected to be high.”

The Musk group’s efforts will focus on “door-knocking, digital advertising and direct mail aimed at turning out the conservative base,” including voters less likely to vote in non-presidential elections.

Musk’s focus on voter turnout will reportedly allow other pro-Republican groups to focus more heavily on TV ads.

Chris Young, Musk’s top political adviser, will lead the midterm effort.

America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo told Axios that “the president’s political team and the rest of the GOP apparatus have built a top-notch operation that will put Republicans in a strong position to buck history and retain control of Congress this fall, and we’re excited to again be part of the team.”

Trump has faced some low polling over high costs, the ongoing Iran war, and the rise of Democratic socialist candidates in multiple races, raising the possibility that the GOP may be unable to hold their slim majority.

Musk’s involvement now has some excited about their chances.

“America PAC was an essential partner for our historic GOTV operation in 2024, and their return for 2026 is a huge boost for Republicans across the country,” James Blair, an adviser to Trump, told Axios.

After Musk dropped hundreds of millions getting Trump elected in 2024, he spent months working at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to lower government spending.

This stint ultimately led to Musk souring on Trump and his administration’s own spending. For a while afterwards, Musk floated the idea of creating a third political party.

Now, however, Musk appears to be back on the side of the GOP, reportedly coordinating with other groups about how he can best boost the party in the midterms.

“We will again outsmart our opponents and ruthlessly execute our mission for the GOP between now and Election Day,” Blair said.

Musk admitted in a recent interview with The Economist that he got “carried away” jumping into politics with Trump.

“I think I got a little too involved in politics,” he said. “I got carried away, frankly.”

He added about his work with DOGE, “We need to sort of take a close look at spending and make sure that money is being spent in sensible ways and that it is not wasted or spent on fraudulent activities. And I got a lot of flak from this.”
