Bravo’s Andy Cohen Skewers GOP Senators ‘Berating’ Fauci for ‘Imaginary Crimes’ in Fiery Monologue

Bravo’s Andy Cohen awarded his “mazel of the day” to Dr. Anthony Fauci after he spent hours in the Senate being “grilled” and “berated” by lawmakers over the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday’s Watch What Happens Live!, Cohen took a moment to dive into politics, claiming politicians critical of Fauci are “just jealous” because they can’t do what Fauci did during his decades of public service: “Fix something.”

Mazel means luck, destiny, or constellation in Hebrew.

Cohen praised Fauci’s work as the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and ended his monologue with a “thank you” to the doctor and the accusation that Republicans are reigniting a “war with science.”

He said:

It is time for my mazel of the day. It goes to Dr. Anthony Fauci, who spent over three hours today being grilled, berated, and sworn at by Senate Republicans over the imaginary crimes they want you to believe he committed during his management of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, this is the same Dr. Fauci who was a devoted public servant for 54 years and led the federal response to the HIV AIDS epidemic as the main architect of PEPFAR. His courageous work is responsible for saving over 26 million lives around the world. Even one of his fiercest critics, Larry Kramer, called him the only true and great hero when it came to responding to the cruel epidemic, while many others in our government turned their backs on our community. Our country is facing serious problems. We’re in a war with no end in sight. Prices are skyrocketing. We can’t even eat lettuce, for God’s sake. And to declare a war on science at a time like this is deeply unserious and dangerous. Maybe our politicians are just jealous because doctors and scientists do the one thing they can’t ever seem to do: fix something. Thank you, Dr. Fauci.

Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times during the contentious Senate hearing, where he faced intense questioning about Covid’s origins, entries from his pandemic-era diary, lockdown measures, and more.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), who chaired the hearing and at one point threw one of Fauci’s lawyers out of the room, informed Fauci that there will be a vote next week on whether to hold him in contempt of Congress. According to Paul, Fauci’s use of the Fifth Amendment is “unsupported” because of his opening statement and his presidential pardon.

Legal experts have so far given mixed responses to whether Fauci being held in contempt will actually hold up in court.
