Ex-Trump Lawyer Insists President’s ‘Malignant Narcissism’ Won’t Let Him Admit to 2020 Loss: ‘It Burns’
President Donald Trump’s “malignant narcissism” is the reason he cannot let the results of the 2020 election go, former Trump lawyer Ty Cobb told The Beat host Ari Melber on Friday.
Cobb was asked by Melber what was the correct way to “contextualize” the president’s national address from the night before, given it “was largely not a new or newsworthy presentation.”
“I think what’s important is to understand that the president losing the 2020 election was the most grievous insult and injury that he ever suffered,” Cobb answered. “And psychologically, it burns. His malignant narcissism cannot abide that insult, and he has devoted himself to trying to rewrite history.”
He argued Trump’s effort has included pardoning people who stormed the Capitol in January 2021 — people who “assaulted others, [and were] violently destroying the Capitol,” Cobb said.
Cobb, who was part of the team that assisted Trump during the Robert Mueller’s investigation, announced his retirement from the White House in May 2018. He has since become a vocal critic of Trump, and condemned the president for comments he made after Mueller’s death this year.
“What the president said today, of course, is petty, shameful, despicable, and undignified,” Cobb told MS NOW in March. “Sadly, that is the president we have. But fortunately, in American history, we’ve had people like Bob Mueller, and hopefully our better angels like Bob can get us beyond the fascism that we’re experiencing at this moment.”
When asked about his own previous insistence Trump was a “class act” following the conclusion of Mueller’s investigation, Cobb offered, “So, that’s the type of person that President Trump is. He’s a demented narcissist.”
