House Republicans Loudly Groan When Democrat Asks Treasury Secretary Not to Interrupt Her Because ‘I’m a Woman’

Groans and jeers erupted from House Republicans when Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) scolded Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for interrupting, demanding courtesy even though “I’m a woman.”

Bessent — whom the White House won’t deny was recently “body-checked” in the White House by Elon Musk — testified Wednesday at a House Ways and Means Committee hearing on the Treasury Department’s budget request.

During one contentious exchange, Bessent repeatedly interrupted and talked over Rep. Sanchez. When her GOP colleagues jeered her objection, Sanchez hit back — and Chairman Rep. Jason Smith (R-MO) reminded them to pipe down:

REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA): And in the interest of time, because our time here is limited, I’m gonna ask you to please limit your answers to yes or no questions. And I’m going to jump straight into those questions.

Mr. Secretary, do you still believe that the president’s tariffs are going to be a one-time price adjustment for American families?

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: If prices go up, they will be one time.

REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA): Okay, well, unfortunately, you appear to be talking out of both sides of your mouth because you yourself have admitted, after conversations with Walmart, that some tariff costs are going to get passed on to consumers. And in fact, we’ve already seen that prices are rising on many everyday goods.

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: No, Congresswoman–.

(CROSSTALK)

REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA): please don’t interrupt me, the time is mine. The time is mine, please don’t interrupt me.

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: And — and– one.

REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA): I will ask you questions and I will grant you an opportunity to answer them, but please don’t interrupt me during my time.

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: With pleasure.

REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA): Okay I know I’m a woman but please try to–.

TREASURY SECRETARY SCOTT BESSENT: Oh–!

REP. LINDA SANCHEZ (D-CA): –limit yourself to answering my questions. No, I’m sorry, but we get talked over all the time–.
