Jemele Hill Deletes Post Claiming Charlie Kirk Was a Victim of ‘White Supremacist Gang Hit’

The Atlantic’s Jemele Hill has deleted a social media post where she claimed slain conservative influencer Charlie Kirk “likely was the victim of a white supremacist gang hit.”
Hill’s post was shared to Bluesky and Threads on Sept. 12.
“The LA Times spoke with an expert (imagine that!) about the markings on the killer’s bullet casings and it turns out … Charlie Kirk likely was the victim of a white supremacist gang hit. Well, well, well,” Hill wrote on both platforms.
Chuck Ross, a reporter with The Washington Free Beacon, was the first to spotthat Hill had deleted that post by Tuesday afternoon.
The expert that Hill referred to was Joan Donovan, an assistant journalism professor at Boston University; the LA Times referred to Donovan as “an expert in extremism” in its write-up of its interview with her.
Donovan, in her LAT interview, claimed the writing on the bullet casings led her to believe Kirk’s killer was more likely a right-winger than a leftist.
The phrase, “If you read this, you are gay lmao” on one casing, Donovan said, was the “typical kind of joking that comes from even more extreme right-wing movements, particularly a group that has dogged Charlie Kirk for years, that [is] led by Nick Fuentes.”
Hill deleted her post as more and more details emerge pointing to Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspected assassin, not being a Republican.
Robinson reportedly had a romantic relationship with his trans roommate, used phrases associated with Antifa, and, in text messages released on Tuesday, said he shot Kirk because of the conservative influencer’s “hatred.” Kirk was the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA, whom President Donald Trump has said helped him win over millions of young voters.
Hill, who is a contributing writer at The Atlantic, also ripped Kirk for having “white supremacist beliefs” in a podcast episode last Friday. She added Kirk’s influence was “dangerous” and that he should not be celebrated following his murder. That “Spolitics” episode remains up on YouTube.
