Alec Baldwin Charged Again With Involuntary Manslaughter In Movie Set Shooting

Actor Alec Baldwin has been indicted on involuntary manslaughter charges for the deadly shooting on the set of the movie Rust.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed while preparing to film a scene with Baldwin in Oct. 2021. Baldwin maintained that he didn’t pull the trigger; the gun just went off.

CNN’s Josh Campbell reported:

Alec Baldwin now criminally charged, once again. We had been reporting earlier on after that fatal shooting in 2021 that the actor have been criminally charged. Those charges were then dropped. Prosecuted at the time said that that was because new evidence came to light in the case, causing questions about a piece of evidence.

Law enforcement source at the time told me that that was because they learned the weapon that was used in the shooting had been modified in some form. Again, those charges had been dropped. Prosecutors at the time said though that if they gathered new information, determining culpability on the part about Baldwin they would then possibly refile charges. We are learning today that that did indeed happen.

Baldwin faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted.

A report commissioned by prosecutors stated:

This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger. Although Alec Baldwin repeatedly denies pulling the trigger, given the tests, findings and observations reported here, the trigger had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver.

Baldwin has maintained his innocence.

Variety reported that Baldwin’s attorneys released a statement Friday saying only,“We look forward to our day in court.”

This is a breaking story and has been updated.
