Eric Adams Dropping Out of NYC Mayor’s Race

Incumbent New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is dropping drop out of the mayoral race that had him pitted against Zohran Mamdani (D), Andrew Cuomo (I), and Curtis Sliwa (R).
Adams posted a video to social media Sunday to announce he was ending his candidacy. While sitting on the stairs of Gracie Mansion, holding a photo of his mother, Adams said he hoped his life could be an example for children “during challenging moments.”
“Only in America can a story like this be told,” Adams said.
President Donald Trump had reportedly considered giving Adams a job in his administration to encourage him to leave the race. Trump has made no secret of his desire to stop front-runner Mamdani, a democratic socialist, from running New York City.
Just last night MSNBC’s Al Sharpton grilled Adams about his relationship with Trump and asked if there was a quid pro quo that involved the DOJ dropping indictment charges against the mayor — which were brought by the Biden administration for alleged corruption — in exchange for allowing Trump to go after undocumented migrants in New York City.
Trump said recently that Adams was “a very good person” and “I helped him out a little bit. He had a problem and he was unfairly hurt over this question.”
Sharpton asked, Did you and the president ever discuss your indictment and or with anyone around the president asking for help, or is the president making that up when he said —”
“No, no, we don’t know what he’s aid that he helped,” Adams answered. ” Whatever way he helped, thank you for your help. I want to be very clear on that. Thank you for your help. I was facing 33 years in prison for bogus charges that the federal government came at me on, and whatever help he did and whatever he’s defining, thank you for your help.”
“Did you and him ever discuss it?” Sharpton asked, to which Adams answered, “No.”
