Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., taunted President Donald Trump to release the Jeffrey Epstein case files after the administration published over 200,000 long-sealed documents related to the 1968 assassination of her father – despite opposition from King’s own family.
After the Trump administration released the records on Monday, King’s children, Martin Luther King III and Bernice King, issued a statement urging the public to approach the material “with empathy, restraint, and respect,” warning against the misuse of the documents to discredit their father’s legacy.
In an additional swipe at the Trump administration, Bernice King took to X to dare Trump to drop the Epstein files.
Framed as part of its transparency initiative, the release was criticized by the civil rights community, including the Rev. Al Sharpton, who raged that the release was timed to “distract” the public from pressure over the Epstein files and that the administration was “using [King] as a pawn in a cheap political stunt.”
In the past week, as the administration continued to resist publishing the Epstein documents, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has also released documents accusing former President Barack Obama of orchestrating a treasonous conspiracy by pushing Trump-Russia collusion allegations in 2016 to mislead the “public in a very dangerous way.”
