New York’s Penn Station to Be Renamed — Possibly for Trump — as Administration Takes Over Rebuild: Report

Federal authorities want to rename New York Penn Station — and you could probably guess who for.

In a letter obtained by the New York Daily News on Wednesday, Department of Transportation boss Sean Duffy indicated he would “[d]irect Amtrak to rename New York Penn Station” as part of a list of priorities.

The new name was not specified in the letter, but it’s no secret that Trump would like to see his name adorning the busy train hub beneath Madison Square Garden.

Back in February, Trump reportedly demanded Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) agree to put the president’s name on Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport in exchange for unfreezing $16 billion slated for a new rail tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey.

The Trump administration froze the money during a 2025 government shutdown.

A court order later reinstated those funds, and Trump denied making any such demand in a Truth Social post.

“The naming of PENN Station (I LOVE Pennsylvania, but it is a direct competitor to New York, and ‘eating New York’s lunch!’) to TRUMP STATION, was brought up by certain politicians and construction union heads, not me – IT IS JUST MORE FAKE NEWS! NO COST OVERRUNS!!!”

Any bid to change Dulles’s name is likely dead in the water, as Florida’s Palm Beach Airport was changed to the Donald J. Trump International Airport earlier this month.

Trump hailed the Palm Beach airport name change, crowing over the newly re-christened facility in a Truth Social post earlier this month.

“Wow! Palm Beach has always been a special place to me. So Beautiful!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” he wrote on July 11 above a photograph of a front-page Palm Beach Post article whose headline read “‘A special moment’ Sons, 2 dozen officials first passengers to touch down after renaming.”
