Dr Christina Propst, the Houston pediatrician fired after posting an anti-MAGA rant online saying voters in a flood-stricken Trump-supporting county would “get what they voted for” issued a public groveling apology Wednesday after widespread outrage.

Propst’s comment came as flash floods devastated Kerr County, Texas, killing at least 119 people, including many young girls at a local Christian summer camp, Camp Mystic.

“Kerr County MAGA voted to gut FEMA. They deny climate change. May they get what they voted for,” she wrote in a post that went viral, before adding, “May all visitors, children, non-MAGA voters and pets be safe and dry.”

Blue Fish Pediatrics, where Propst worked, announced days later that she was “no longer an employee,” saying her words do “not reflect the values, standards or mission” of the practice. Propst’s biography has since been removed from the clinic’s website.

On Wednesday, however, Propst issued her first public statement on the post, writing: “I understand my comment caused immense pain to those suffering indescribable grief and for that I am truly sorry.”

“I take full responsibility for a social media comment I made before we knew that so many precious lives were lost to the terrible tragedy in central Texas,” she said. “The comment was mine and mine alone. Even in these divisive times, some things are and should remain sacred.”

She continued: “Human life is sacred. The well-being of children is sacred. Politics and party affiliation should never affect the judgment or actions of any medical provider and have never affected mine.”

She added: “Perhaps my biggest regret is that my words are now serving as a distraction from our shared responsibility to heal the pain and suffering of those whose lives have been forever changed by unspeakable loss, and to take every step to ensure such a disaster never occurs again.”

Propst added that “the heart of every Texan breaks for each and every family shattered by this tragedy” and that she was praying those suffering “find peace and comfort in the difficult days ahead.”

“Moving forward, I will do my very best to listen, learn, grow and serve my community as I have always done,” she concluded.
