‘That’s Not in Consideration’: Karoline Leavitt Says Trump Won’t Give Security Details Back to Ex-Officials Amid Iran Tensions
President Donald Trump will not return security details to some of his former officials even as tensions with Iran escalate, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday.
“That’s not in consideration,” Leavitt said in response to a reporter’s question about whether Secret Service protections would be restored to former officials like John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and Gen. Mark Milley during Thursday’s White House press briefing.
Bolton, Trump’s ex-National Security adviser who was once the target of an Iranian assassination plot in 2022, revealed in January that his Secret Service detail was revoked by Trump, saying he was “disappointed but not surprised.”
The next day, Pompeo’s detail was also pulled, along with that of the former secretary of state’s top aide, Brian Hook.
Pompeo and Hook were both the subjects of threats by Iran during Trump’s first term.
By the end of January, Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lost his protection that was established after Trump gave the order to kill Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in 2020.
