This is NOT Video from Inside Traverse City, Michigan Walmart During Mass Stabbing

Multiple individuals were stabbed on Saturday in a Traverse City, Michigan Walmart incident which left 11 people wounded, some critically, and the public asking a lot of questions — including about a widely shared video, shown below, that many incorrectly described as being from inside the store during the incident.

Police responded to an active scene Saturday at the Traverse City Walmart after reports of an active incident involving a suspect allegedly stabbing multiple people in Walmart. Police say that a responding officer arrived within minutes and took the suspect, a 42-year-old male, into custody.

Grand Traverse Sheriff Sheriff Michael D. Shea confirmed to reporters on Saturday that there was “citizen involvement” in stopping the suspect’s rampage.

Few details have been released about the suspect or his motives, and likewise very few details are available at this time on the age range of the victims.

An update from the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office late Saturday evening offered little additional information from the original reports:

On 7-26-25 at 4:43 pm, a 42 year old male subject, acting alone, entered Walmart in Garfield Township and used a folding knife to stab eleven people of unknown ages. A Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Deputy was on scene within minutes and took the man into custody. Citizens in Walmart also assisted in the apprehension and treatment of victims.

All victims are being treated for injuries at Munson Medical Center, many in serious or critical condition.

Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino said on X that agents are responding to assist in the investigation.

However, one video that was repeatedly shared purporting to be from inside the Walmart during the stabbing is from a completely separate incident.

However, the video being reshared was previously tweeted about a different Walmart incident in June.

It was shared with more context on Threads from a Dearborn based account, which stated “The footage shows a violent brawl between a group of individuals and store employees. Several bystanders were seen trying to intervene and break up the fight before police arrived.”

Many on social media have reported that the citizen involvement refers to a civilian carrying a licensed firearm. However, at the time of this post, police would only confirm that a citizen was involved but neither confirmed nor denied that the individual was armed.

There is also purported video of that alleged civilian confrontation being shared on social media. Should it be confirmed, this report may be updated.
