Tim Walz’s ‘Big Dad Energy’ Gets Buzz Among Progressives on Threads

As the country learns more about Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate pick, some progressives picked up on a certain kind of vibe from the Midwesterner: Big Dad Energy.
Threads, which was launched by Meta as a direct competitor to Twitter/X, is still a viable platform a little over a year after its launch with 200 million users reported in the beginning of August. While it’s still nowhere near as dominant as Twitter/X, some things are catching on. This week, it’s the “BigDadEnergy” topic tag (the Threads version of a hashtag).
Walz has been making an impression with his homegrown biography — an Army National Guard veteran who went on to serve six terms in Congress, a former high school social studies teacher and football coach, and a governor who pushed for free meals for kids in schools. Add in videos like the one he made with his daughter at a recent Minnesota County Fair, and some were really responding to Walz’s flat-out silly dadness.
And on Threads, “BigDadEnergy” took over:

But it was the relatable jokes that spread like wildfire, but going by what we’ve learned from this, Walz would have been right there with a fire extinguisher because he keeps two on every floor of the house.
