Trump Complains To Fans At Black Barbershop About CNN Debate — ‘Probably Won’t Be Fair’
Former President Donald Trump complained to supporters at a Black barbershop that CNN’s debate will “probably not” be fair and lamented the “record” ratings he’d be pulling in for the network.
Trump called in to a Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL)-hosted “Black Americans For Trump” event Wednesday at Rocky’s Barbershop in Atlanta, site of Thursday night’s presidential debate with President Joe Biden.
One attendee, Atlanta talk show radio host Shelley Wynter, asked Trump if he thought he’d get a fair shake from Jake Tapper, and then another Trump surrogate, Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX), prompted him to mock the CNN anchor by calling him “Fake Tapper”:
DONALD TRUMP: Go ahead.
SHELLEY WYNTER: Mr. president Shelley Wynter. How are you, sir?
DONALD TRUMP: How are you? Thank you very much.
SHELLEY WYNTER: I wanted to ask you. The debate is tomorrow. Do you think that you will get — what many of my listeners are asking me– do you think that you will get a fair shot from Jake Tapper and Dana Bash? Do you think you’ll get–.
REP. WESLEY HUNT: Fake Tapper!
SHELLEY WYNTER: Yeah Fake Tapper (LAUGHTER) and Dawn Bash?
DONALD TRUMP: It was cutting out, can you please repeat that question, please?
REP. BYRON DONALDS: Do you think you’re going to get a fair shot from, Jake Tapper and Dana Bash tomorrow night?
DONALD TRUMP: Well, I think it would be good for them if they did it. I think probably not. You know, it was very interesting.
During the primary, CNN covered me, you know, very, very tough. But they covered me all the time. And I won it very quickly. I won it in record time.
And Byron knows that and Ben knows that the role there and and Leslie was there was a good job on television this morning, by the way. Thank you. But they were all they were all there. We won it in record–.
So now I’m making my speech to, you know, accept everything and to acknowledge the victories that, and CNN started off and then they ended they Jake Tapper said, “All right, that’s enough. We’re not going to listen.”.
So they cover the whole primary, but they don’t cover my victory speech. So, you know, am I going to get a fair? Probably not. But it would be very good for CNN. They’re having a lot of ratings problems. I think it would be very good for CNN, actually, in terms of its credibility. It’ll be interesting to see.
In another exchange, Trump ignored a question about veterans in order to joke about the debate ratings.
