President Donald Trump accused Canada of trying to “illegally influence” the U.S. Supreme Court on tariffs after he halted trade talks with America’s northern neighbor.
“CANADA CHEATED AND GOT CAUGHT!!!” Trump wrote on Friday morning on Truth Social.

The president claimed Canada had bought ads featuring late President Ronald Reagan criticizing tariffs, a central piece of Trump’s economic agenda.
He wrote:
CANADA CHEATED AND GOT CAUGHT!!!They fraudulently took a big buy ad saying that Ronald Reagan did not like Tariffs, when actually he LOVED TARIFFS FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND ITS NATIONAL SECURITY. Canada is trying to illegally influence the United States Supreme Court in one of the most important rulings in the history of our Country. Canada has long cheated on Tariffs, charging our farmers as much as 400%. Now they, and other countries, can’t take advantage of the U.S. any longer. Thank you to the Ronald Reagan Foundation for exposing this FRAUD. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!
The Supreme Court recently granted more time for oral arguments in their upcoming case on the legality of Trump’s widespread tariffs. A first hearing is set for next month. Trump has warned that the U.S. could owe trillions if his tariffs are shot down in court.
Trump first announced he had “terminated” trade negotiations with Canada on Thursday night.
He wrote:
The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs. The ad was for $75,000. They only did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts. TARIFFS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT
The announcement comes amid news that inflation rose 3% in September, slightly lower than the 3.1% experts were largely expecting. The consumer price index showed a 0.3% increase for the month. Trump has continued to push back on concerns about the economy by doubling down on his dedication to tariffs and renegotiating trade contracts revitalizing the U.S. labor market.
“THE UNITED STATES IS WEALTHY, POWERFUL, AND NATIONALLY SECURE AGAIN, ALL BECAUSE OF TARIFFS! THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER IS IN THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!” he wrote on Friday morning after blasting Canada.
“THE STOCK MARKET IS STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE BECAUSE OF TARIFFS!” he added in another post.
