Trump Somehow Insists U.S. ‘Totally’ Controls Strait of Hormuz: ‘Things Are Going Great’

President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday evening that the U.S. “totally” controls the Strait of Hormuz, adding, “Things are going great for our country.”

The president’s comments happened during an appearance before reporters at Joint Base Andrews, just after he attended the 2026 Patriot Games in Geneva, Ohio, a youth athletics competition created by his administration to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.

“The country is doing well,” Trump said. “The stock market’s fantastic — record. We have 79 records so far in a short period of time. More people are working right now in the United States than ever before, and prices are dropping fast. Iran is going fine. It’s going just absolutely fine. We totally control the Strait of Hormuz. We have control over it. Nobody else. Only us. Our navy is unbelievable, and things are going great for our country.”

Over the weekend, however, CBS News reported that Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said the Strait of Hormuz will not open until the United States “corrects its behavior.” Not to mention, per The New York Times, oil prices hit $90 a barrel for the first time in two weeks on Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, Trump added to reporters, “I don’t trust Iran. Are you saying I trust Iran? I’m the last person to trust Iran. They’ve lied to me constantly… We own [the Strait of Hormuz], and at some point, maybe they’ll do something, and then they get blown away.”

Earlier Tuesday, U.S. Central Command said American forces disabled a Panama-flagged cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman. According to an X post from CENTCOM, a Navy MH-60 helicopter fired two Hellfire missiles into the ship’s engine room after its civilian crew “ignored repeated warnings,” adding, “U.S. forces operating in the Middle East are highly vigilant, lethal, and ready.”
